The Director, Global Supplier Quality Assurance provides vision and leadership for all aspects of raw material and packaging supplier quality for Abbotts Nutrition division.
This individual establishes long range strategy and sets near term priorities across commodity qualification, risk analysis, auditing, monitoring, supplier performance management, and quality event management.
Allocates human resources and selects, acquires, and deploys appropriate methodologies to fulfill near term goals and commitments while ensuring sustainable quality performance.
Motivates and leads their organization to achieve business objectives.
WHAT YOULL DO: Deliver on key AN initiatives and drive best in class performance in supplier controls and supplier quality improvements.
Ensures quality infrastructure and standards are in place and maintained at global suppliers to meet compliance requirements for product and manufacturing sites.
This is done through the qualification process, ongoing business maintenance, and tracking/trending of performance.
Responsible for the governance of Supplier Excellence programs to engage key suppliers management in a business review process to monitor metrics, identify trends and implement programs to assure demonstrated performance improvements.
Approves Quality Agreements for high-risk suppliers and sets Abbott expectations with suppliers to assist in ownership and financial remediation if necessary.
This position will also manage regional and global QA issues related to commodities and assist as necessary for resolution.
Make determinations on critical matters such as product safety, quality, compliance and regulatory issues related to suppliers and has direct interface with key management for global manufacturing, logistics, engineering, R&D, commercial operations, and medical.
Provides strategic direction and oversight to Global Ingredient/ Packaging initiatives to assure continuity of commercial manufacturing by qualifying new commodities and managing current supply to support capacity increases globally, prevent downtime due to quality related issues, and avoid on market events with safety and reputational impact.
Effectively identify and develop staffing requirements: Develop practices that ensure a diverse work force and improved job performance.
Work with Human Resources, College Relations, and the Professional Development Programs to identify opportunities to build & maintain organizational staffing requirements, as well as employee reward and recognition.
Execute on transformational changes in key quality business processes (electronic qualification process, implementation of process monitoring and controls to supplier data, resource management through enterprise software, etc.) Responsible for the Regional North America Incoming Quality lab function including approving materials for use based on existing and generated data to maintain manufacturing schedules across the network.
Is the Quality System Owner for Purchasing Controls: Supplier Controls (Ingredients, Packaging, Non -ingredient/packaging and Contracted Services) EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/BACKGROUND QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree in Life Sciences, Engineering or Related Technical discipline.
Minimum 10 years of overall experience in Operations, Quality Assurance, or similar experience in R&D.
The position requires a broad understanding of quality principles as well as the technical aspects of product / package / process, design, compliance, and manufacture across a wide range of product types.
Previous experience leading a team of direct reports and cross-functional partner Experience managing in an environment with changing priorities and making appropriate risk-based decisions in the face of uncertainties.
Proficiency in organizing and presenting complex technical information to upper-level management.
