The Boeing Company is seeking an Avionics Safety Engineering Manager to join our team in one of the following locations: Plano, TX, Long Beach, CA, Hazelwood, MO, Berkeley, MO, or Mesa, AZ.

This position will manage the associated statements of work and workforce specifically around systems and hardware safety.

This position will be responsible for hardware and system safety analysis and safety integration of AvionX products. In addition, this position will be responsible for ensuring the scope of the program safety analysis is appropriate, ensuring that functional teams supporting the program are aware of and following the processes for safety analyses, defining, allocating, validating, and verifying safety requirements and objectives, and is responsible for executing all levels of safety analyses for the program.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage, develop, and motivate employees to perform Systems Engineering for AvionX projects and programs

  • Manage engineers performing technical activities in the area of safety requirements management, airplane level threat analysis, and integration of safety processes across multiple functional teams

  • Develop and maintain relationships with AvionX Program and Functional Team leaders as well as collaborate with regulators

  • Create and maintain a culture of open communication and diversity with focus on continuous improvement and knowledge transfer

  • Maintain staffing profiles, resource allocations, and schedules as a part of a matrixed organization for up to 20 direct reports

  • Lead staffing and monitor execution on multiple concurrent projects, ensuring tasks are assigned and completed within expectations

  • Enhance the knowledge of engineering teammates by teaching, mentoring and demonstrating a technical growth mindset

  • Serve as AvionX spokesperson and advise executive leadership and customers on technical approaches, Systems Engineering Safety status, and certification for AvionX projects and programs

  • Develop technical ideas which support customer needs and guide their development into AvionX projects and programs

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. **Note: the expectation is 3-4 days in the office

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering field

  • 2+ years of experience with System Safety, System Engineering, and/or Product Design

  • Experience leading through influencing and partnering with cross-functional teams on project and initiatives

  • 2+ years of experience leading teams in a formal and/or informal role

Preferred Qualifications (Desired):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software engineering

  • 2+ years of experience working on aerospace certification projects

  • Experience with Systems Engineering & Integration and Airplane Safety

  • Experience with airplane development programs

  • Experience with System Safety industry best practices (e.g. ARP4761 and ARP4754, MIL-STD-882, NASA-STD 8719, etc.)

  • Experience managing conflicting priorities in a resource-scarce environment

  • Experience mentoring, developing and growing team members

  • Experience with leading technical cross functional teams, working across organizational boundaries, and ensuring an inclusive environment

Summary pay range: $137,700 – $198,950
