Position Director of Individual Giving Description The National Director of Individual Giving is an exciting opportunity to build and manage a robust individual giving program, as well as capital and annual giving campaigns, to support the expansion of housing and services for homeless and at-risk veterans across the country. The Director serves as a member of the national Development & Communications team, reports to the Vice President, Development & Communications and directly supervises the National Campaign Manager. The role will lead major gifts, planned giving, and annual giving, as well as capital campaigns, to support and expand the philanthropic engagement of individuals across the country. Successful candidates will be experienced in building new fundraising programs and eager to directly solicit and secure major gifts. The position works in close collaboration with national development and communications team, as well as regional Executive Directors, Development Managers and other staff to expand support for direct services and capital projects nationwide. Responsibilities: Build and oversee individual philanthropy program across organization, including at regional sites, through major gifts, annual fund and planned giving programs, currently totaling $1.1M. Develop and maintain portfolio of high-level donors and prospects; directly solicit operating and capital gifts $10K-$1M, independently and in partnership with regional and national leadership. Strategically identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned gifts from individuals, family foundations; maintain relationships with allied professionals and donor advised funds Actively produce written proposals, requests, appeals, case development and other donor-centric communications, in close partnership with Communications staff. Manage execution of national direct marketing campaign by Campaign Manager, including production of print and digital appeals and other direct response campaigns. Develop and implement a planned giving program: identify and cultivate prospects, initiate gift discussions, create marketing and stewardship plan, facilitate necessary administration for structured gift options including bequests, donor advised funds, charitable trusts. Participate in capital campaign development; directly solicit gifts for 5-8 capital campaigns including building and renovation projects nationally; support site staff in securing $50K-$1M capital gifts. Partner with senior leadership, Advisory Council, and Board, deploying them as necessary to cultivate and solicit gifts, steward current donors, host major donor events and other such activities. Lead donor cultivation and stewardship to promote a culture of gratitude among internal and external constituents, develop process, templates for stewardship, engagement, acknowledgment. Work with national development team, site leadership and regional development staff to develop and support regional fundraising plans, revenue goals and strategies for individual philanthropy. Utilize donor research tools to support meeting preparation and strategic solicitation. Maintain constituent information, including contact, action steps and deadlines, in Raisers Edge. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Bachelors degree required. The ideal candidate will have: 7-10 years of relevant experience in fundraising, major gifts, membership or alumni management. Demonstrated success in soliciting and acquiring five and six-figure gifts in a nonprofit setting. Proven skills in moves management, and creation of strategies to sustain and increase investment. Excellent communication, project management, customer service, and interpersonal skills; persuasive writing and presentation style. Ability to manage multiple priorities, work in a deadline- driven environment and manage complex projects while maintaining attention to detail. Comfort working independently and as a team, ability to lead both direct and indirect reports. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Raisers Edge experience preferred. Flexibility to work some evenings as well as occasional travel. High levels of integrity, flexibility, strategic thinking and humor are necessary, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change.
