The Immigration Project at Advancing Justice – Los Angeles assists immigrants nationally and locally who are seeking help with immigration relief such as adjustment of status, representation in immigration court, and other forms of family-based immigration.
The Immigration Project hosts free in-house and off-site workshops and information sessions within Los Angeles County and Orange County to assist undocumented immigrants for little to no cost.
Immigration consultations are also available in-person or over the phone by appointment only.

WHAT YOU BRING JD and active state membership in good standing in any states in the U.S.
(California preferred) within 7 months of hire Minimum two years of immigration experience, including immigration court experience, with experience working with victims of crimes and removal proceedings Bilingual in at least one Asian language strongly preferred (Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Thai, Tagalog or Vietnamese) Demonstrated sincere commitment to social justice and serving on behalf of low-income, immigrant communities, AANPHI or non-profit environments preferred Valid driver’s license and/or access to alternative means of transportation WHAT WE BRING The special opportunity to join a mission driven team Rich medical, dental and vision benefits Retirement options through 403B and match Flexible and Hybrid work schedules Referral and Signing bonuses ABOUT THE ROLE Reporting to the Immigration Project Director, the Staff Attorney works directly on complex immigration cases, including on immigration cases dealing with victims of crimes (U, VAWA, T visas), and removal defense cases, provides technical support and capacity building to other nonprofit organizations on immigration, and staffs evening and weekend workshops.
Primary duties assigned to the staff attorney include, but are not limited to, providing direct application assistance in complex immigration cases, providing legal representation for diverse clients with complex immigration cases before USCIS and Immigration Court, including appeals and habeas petitions, and conducting immigration trainings for other CBOs and partner agencies.
The pay range is $60,724 to $86,532 per year.
The position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Unit.
Your day-to-day typically includes: 80% Provide direct application assistance with immigration cases Undertake administrative and logistical duties related to direct application assistance Conduct legal review of immigration cases Provide legal representation for diverse clients with complex immigration cases before USCIS and Immigration Court Maintain an active caseload to meet project deliverables Regular travel to detention centers 10% Provide Technical Assistance and Support Organize and implement various immigration trainings Work with intake staff to provide immigration consultations, review/approve appointments, answer immigration related questions, and documents Provide technical assistance and/or coordination support of workshops and clinics 10% All other duties as assigned Provide consultations, advice, and/or referrals in conjunction with attorney Assist legal team in determining appropriate legal remedy or advice for clients Provide information to clients about legal services and referrals Provide general case support, including but not limited to interviewing, document preparation, filing, discovery, case and calendar maintenance.
