Job Purpose/Summary:

This position will perform scheduled and non-scheduled technical and analytical support for Network, Programmable Logic Controllers, and related real time systems, along with support of legacy applications. This position will perform a variety of functions including supporting roles for analysis, design, integration and implementation of real time applications and communication networks. Works closely with Control Center and field personnel to ensure reliable communications with remote PLCs that monitor and control various pipelines and ensures reliable historical data is available for reports. Position will require a working knowledge of electrical and SCADA equipment and will be subject to call outs for work associated with Plains field operations and/or emergency response.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures maximum reliability and uptime of the networking system 24 hours per day/7 days per week, maintaining a secure network environment in compliance with company and regulatory guidelines.
  • Modifies and updates the real time database with HMIs and PLCs to reflect a dynamic system
  • Responsible for operation and maintenance of database, network and reporting systems associated with the primary and backup systems
  • Provides scheduled and non-scheduled installation and maintenance on network systems
  • Responsible for implementation, integration, operation and security of wide area and local area networks comprised mainly of VSAT, VLAN, VPN, virtual servers, security solutions, PLCs, business, video, and ethernet networks.
  • Experience with volt/ohm-meter usage; data scope; 4-20 milli-amp testers and other related electrical test equipment. Also, must be familiar with other basic hand tools.
  • Read and understand P&ID drawings, electrical schematics, mechanical schematics, and technical operational manuals.
  • Perform documentation required by Plains and other regulating agencies as required.
  • Work and communicate safely and effectively with field operations, fellow employees, contractors, and the public.
  • Performs field calibrations on analog and discrete devices
  • Subject to call outs, travel and overtime for work associated with Plains field operations and/or emergency response.
  • Any other pipeline related duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • Associate Degree in Computer Information Systems, electrical or technical certification or equivalent experience in computer networking
  • Must have a thorough understanding of network topologies, network protocols and database development
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities required
  • Advanced knowledge of network switches, routers, TCP/IP, VPN, and VLAN technologies; Unix and Windows system administration and troubleshooting; and Firewall operations and rules, network security and monitoring.
  • Experience with disaster recovery, especially backup and restore.
  • Experience working in a 24×7 support role with real time systems.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to convey the needs leadership.
  • Ability to work in Office/Field Environments, subject to call out as business requires
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) knowledge and industrial electrical training.
  • Know basic NEC code requirements and specs associated with pipeline operations as well as all applicable governmental regulations
  • Familiar with basic tools and electrical tools and familiar with different electrical test equipment associated with meters, meggers, and scopes.
  • Ability to complete Haz-Mat training, safety programs, and meet minimum DOT qualifications and able to obtain any other Operator Qualifications as deemed necessary by the Operations Supervisor
  • Good oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interface with individuals inside and outside the company
  • Able to speak, read and write English and perform basic math.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to operate company vehicles.
  • Occasionally lifts or carries moderately heavy equipment or parts and positions then during maintenance activities.  May have to work in confined spaces, working and stooping, kneeling, bending, and walking distances in all types of terrain.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract;
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks;
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing

Compensation:

  • The pay range for this role is $48.82-66.06 USD Hourly depending on a candidate’s relevant work experience and education.
