Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY looking for a Physician that will function as Director of Extended Care (EC), Community Living Center (CLC) and Chief of Geriatrics.

The incumbent will be responsible for professional peer review, organizational improvement, continuing education, scopes of practice, clinical privileging, and other quality and process improvement activities to meet annual performance measures and monitors as identified by facility and higher level management/program officials within and outside of the VA.

Responsibilities includes, but are not limited to: As Director of CLC, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that comprehensive high-quality medical care is provided to each CLC long-term care resident.

Incumbent will also participate in direct patient care as an attending physician.

As a Primary Care physician, incumbent handles all CLC medical emergencies.

In his/her absence, coverage may be by the CLC providers or other qualified providers as determined by the EC / CLC Director.

Incumbent will ensure that physician coverage in the CLC is continuous and will be part of the On-Call coverage.

As Director of Extended Care (EC), incumbent will oversee and approve the Community Care GEC consults including Non-Skilled Home Health Aide program, Adult Day Health Care program, In-Home Respite and Home Hospice program in which older Veterans in the community receive VA-paid home health services.

Incumbent will also oversee the Contract Nursing Home program.

(If there are no beds available in the CLC and the 70-100% SC veteran needs long term care placement, in which case the VA has to pay for long term care in a contract nursing home.) As Director of Geriatrics, incumbent will work with Director of Primary Care and Director of Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) to ensure high quality care is delivered to older Veterans enrolled in Geriatrics Primary Care and HBPC As Director of Geriatrics, incumbent will be in collaboration and leadership with Geriatrics Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC), whose mission is to advance research, education, and clinical services for older Veterans in the facility, VISN, and nationally Work Schedule: M-F 8:00am

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physician must be board certified in Geriatrics Must have hands-on geriatrics experience as well as documented managerial experience in a system-wide environment.

Must have proven ability to administer a comprehensive academic and clinical program with active participation in geriatric, resident teaching and interdepartmental conferences Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience: The incumbent must possess strong leadership qualities.
