  About the Role: The Director of Investments will be responsible for major strategic decisions related to the family’s private investment portfolio.

This person will be responsible for identification, analysis, governance, and value creation across a wide range of investment opportunities.

Once diligenced and evaluated, some of these private investments will be passive in nature that require appropriate monitoring.

Others will be more significant, active investments – including multiple current family businesses – which will require more active oversight and intervention to ensure that the family is engaged appropriately and in real-time.

  In the short term, the Director of Investments will be responsible for helping the organization achieve the below high-priority areas.

Raising the bar by developing a process and rigor by which investment decisions are made and opportunities are generated.

We should be actively pursuing opportunities that fit within a defined strategy and rigorously evaluating which opportunities to move on.

Reviewing current portfolio of investments and aligning opportunities with family values.

Review current and prospective investments to ensure alignment with a strategic plan that brings clarity to purpose and approach around investment opportunities.

Service at the highest level.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone to leverage their experience and investment acumen in actively managing a diverse and growing portfolio of investments.

  Your Impact: Develop an approach and philosophy for family investing, differentiated by family member, for evaluating and participating in private deals.

Drive major strategic decisions around private investments i.e., sell, finance, partner, and unlock value, as a trusted advisor and a fiduciary for the family.

Ensure that connectivity is maintained between the existing family business ventures and the family’s interests.

Develop an approach by which to filter potential opportunities to deliver a consistent and timely assessment decision.

Mature, and potentially incubate, new business ventures that are of interest to the family.

Attend board meetings, prepare board materials, and represent the family’s interests and values, as a corporate steward.

Work autonomously to analyze, benchmark, model and leverage competitive and industry related trends to inform desirable business model and align with P&L, optimize structure of investments, inform price and cost related decisions, and determine time horizon and exit strategy.

Oversee governance, monitoring, and performance of investments and identify opportunities for the family to drive value creation in these positions, whether through follow-on investment, brand activation, or by leveraging the family’s network.

Source private deals and evaluate new opportunities, including building a business model from the ground up and pitching new ideas to relevant parties.

Partner with external advisors to ensure all decisions are made with the requisite expertise and consideration.

Track key milestones to ensure timely communication for all relevant stakeholders.

  What You’ll Offer: A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field; an MBA from a top tier university is preferred.

Minimum of 6+ years of experience managing, modeling, sourcing, and extracting value from private investment.

Prior experience at a family office a plus.

Foundational experience from a top-tier Management Consulting firm (MBB).

Proficient experience with financial modeling, and data analytics and industry research tools.

Intellectual curiosity and demonstrated investment and analytical acumen.

Exceptional organizational, verbal and written skills.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.

Ability to organize information, generate reports, and maintain data regarding investment portfolio management.

Sound judgment and ability to handle sensitive materials with a high degree of confidentiality.

Creative problem-solver and team player with the ability to navigate a fast-paced environment.
