Job Description

The AltaMed Institute for Health Equity (AIHE) was established in 2017 to advance health equity by identifying and removing barriers to optimal health.

AIHE is based within the AltaMed Health Services Corporation (AltaMed), a large Federally Qualified Health Center that serves low-income patients through nearly 40 community health centers and senior care centers across Los Angeles County and Orange County.

The Director of Implementation Science and Evaluation will create a bridge between research evidence and the real-world settings of service delivery to improve outcomes for those being served, and advance strategies that address equity.

He/she is broadly responsible for leading a program of rapid-response implementation science and evaluation projects.

These projects will focus on producing actionable findings for improving health services delivery, for enhancing the design of innovative AIHE programs and interventions, and ultimately for advancing equity through improved health/healthcare outcomes for AltaMed patients.

The person in this position will work with the Director of Research, senior AIHE and health services leadership, and other key stakeholders across the organization, including AltaMed providers, to initiate, design, develop, execute, and present results and recommendations stemming from these projects.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in public health, healthcare administration and management, health services research, organizational sociology or related field.
  • 3-5 years of applied research experience in implementation science in the healthcare, public health, or social service sector.

Responsibilities

1.

Identify key questions and objectives of senior leaders that can be readily informed by implementation science and evaluation approaches.

2.

Supports the development and implementation of an Institute-wide evaluation, data infrastructure, and program implementation strategy.

3.

Provides strategic leadership, leads efforts to priorities and address data needs and issues to improve the Institutes impact and effective use of data.

4.

Work collaboratively with teams and stakeholders across the organization to obtain needed context, information, and data.

5.

Design appropriate analytic plans—leveraging implementation science and evaluation frameworks and an understanding of existing literature—that can produce actionable evidence to address identified questions and objectives.

6.

Present project plans, updates, and findings in clear, precise ways tailored to relevant internal and external audiences.

7.

As appropriate, development and present specific recommendations based on findings.

8.

React to specific analytic requests in a timely manner with plans that are rigorous, feasible, and tailored to the specific question at hand, while explaining, as appropriate, the limits of what is currently feasible and what it would take to provide a more robust approach.

9.

Develop an understanding of broader organizational goals and questions; based on this understanding be proactive in working with other research and AIHE team members to propose additional, forward looking implementation science and evaluation projects to address these questions.

10.

Provide consultations with AIHE teams and stakeholders across the organization to provide guidance on approaches to evaluate their programs.

11.

When appropriate and feasible, seek IRB approval for projects and disseminate findings through academic conferences and peer-reviewed journals.

12.

Lead and manage a diverse team to achieve objectives while maintaining a supportive environment and internal culture of equity that fosters growth.

13.

Leads team-building and team-strategy efforts.

Commitment to professional development, training, and job growth of direct reports.

14.

Participate in and contribute to general research team and AIHE team development and planning activities.

15.

Contribute to reviews of external research partnership proposals and other team discussions.

16.

Work collaboratively with others in the research team, AIHE, and others across AltaMed.

17.

Follow relevant privacy and compliance rules and regulations.

18.

Fulfill other duties as assigned.
