Needs to have Engineering degree
Someone who can take a part, make sure it is modifies as needed to test, test it, review data, and make or recommend improvements. Hand-on lab engineer but would is independent enough to general solutions to technical problems, rather than just executing qualification work
Position Summary
This position is responsible for hands-on engineering activities necessary to develop actuated and regulated pneumatic valves for aero engine applications. The engineer works under day-to-day direction of a Project Engineer, who is responsible for overall product design integration and compliance with customer specifications, and takes charge of specific development parts that may need modification to validate design elements, executes development tests, analyzes data, recommends and makes test and design improvements, and documents results. The engineer is responsible to independently resolve key problems/challenges in product design and development. Generally, products will be a part of engine systems and involve knowledge of pneumatic values, related/similar fluid systems, and various actuation methodologies.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Take specific parts and coordinate configuration compliance as well as any changes to execute functional/performance testing that will demonstrate part compliance or investigate design options and solutions (ie, make sure parts are built right including any special modifications for testing).
• Work with Test Engineers and Test Technicians to execute development and qualification tests, helping ensure testing is compliant with test procedures and general best practices.
• Evaluate results and interpret data real-time to make/recommend changes in testing and part configuration to improve results; contribute to design and development process with engineering expertise relevant to the product.
• Provide data reduction/analysis and written content that supports formal test reporting by the Project Engineer.
• Calculate force margins, perform simple stress analysis, and rough size valve/actuation components.
• Maintain project files and appropriate records of work, compliant with company and aerospace industry standards, practices, and regulations.
Education Level: (Required): Bachelor’s Degree
Field of Study/Area of Experience: BS in Engineering – mechanical, aerospace, systems, or related field. MS in Engineering considered equivalent to 2 years of experience.
5+ years of experience in relevant to applicable product, preferable in aerospace
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
• Must be capable of performing assigned tasks on actuated and regulated valves with applications in aerospace pneumatic systems at high-temperature.
• Able to work in fast-paced integrated product team, following direction and aerospace protocols, but also able to initiate and lead independent action.
• Demonstrated expertise with complex mechanical engineering solutions. Experience in design and developing some or all of the following types of products is desirable: electromechanical actuators and motors, fluid power actuation and controls, pneumatic values, aircraft jet engine accessories and controls.
• Able to lead assembly, development, and qualification testing, while engaging closely with manufacturing and laboratory teams.
• Proficient in understanding and working with multi-generational design practices (2-D drawings, CAD and 3-D modeling and drawings).
• Ability to improve products or services by applying professional and business knowledge.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion.
• Familiarity with new product development practices applicable in an aerospace industry environment.
• Has good command of basic engineering principles required for products.
• Strong prioritization skills and able to handle multi-tasking,
• Self-directed; capable of acting independently to design and develop assigned products.
