Head of Finance

Summary

This position ‘s responsibility is to be the Site Finance Head for the Los Angeles site. Working as an agile thought partner, this role will be a trusted advisor.

  • Lead all Finance function activities within the site, including business partnering, decision support, planning, forecasting, fiduciary and statutory responsibilities and obligations
  • Independent thought leader providing strategic direction to Site/OpU/Region; a deep understanding of the Site Manufacturing/Site Support Functions in achieving the site strategy
  • Elevate financial capabilities within the Site Finance function, develop next generation of leaders
  • A member of the Site Leadership Team to provide financial insights/solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive and lead Finance organization for the site, including decision support, planning, forecasting and analysis financial reporting (including Core Operating Profit, CAPEX, Productivity: CAU & FTE), internal controls, compliance, audit and risk management
  • Set business strategy for the site, lead business reviews, challenge the status quo, shape and influence direction
  • Deliver high-quality insights, integrated decision support, predictive scenario planning and step-change solutions for the site
  • Manage planning and forecasting process to yield accurate results and stay within budget
  • Meet the fiduciary and statutory responsibilities and obligations, overseeing statutory reporting and compliance requirements, providing oversight of period-end reporting, stats and tax returns submissions where required
  • Continuously enhance the controls environment and ensure adherence to all policies. Oversee local SOX & controls planning, implementation, remediation and risk assessment. Engage in collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
  • Lead GMSGQ Site Finance including financial reporting, compliance, planning, analysis & decision support, audit & risk management, and finance operations (Company Business Solutions)
  • Work collaboratively with the site leadership team to provide financial insights on manufacturing performance, local risks and opportunities, predictive scenario planning, new products, and transformation initiatives
  • Establish and maintain a rigorous budget planning and forecasting process, such as volume, production costs, core earning, variances, capex, inventory and headcount, ensuring transparency on deviations. Illustrate the business story beyond the numbers through impactful presentations to senior management
  • Collaborate with GMS/GQ Head of Finance in assessing local risks and opportunities, which anticipate performance variances versus budget and forecasts
  • Perform annual standard cost calculations and monthly deviation analysis (SAP/F4P). Review the annual physical inventory count and fixed asset verification
  • Meet site statutory financial reporting ‘” IFRS, J-Sox/US-SOX ‘” and compliance requirements. Develop company compliance (laws, regulations, and ethics), and represent the company in non-GMP Compliance Audits

Qualifications

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Strong knowledge in budgeting, cost accounting, financial reporting and analysis, SAP R/3, BI, MS Office.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to successfully manage, organize and analyze large volumes of data.
  • Experience evolving finance capabilities in the area of decision support & solutioning (scenario planning, predictive analytics), internal controls and integrated reporting
  • Understands how to optimize essential work e.g. leverage Finance Services, Automation so that Site finance functions can focus on business partnership

Education and/or experience

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Finance. CMA, CPA, Masters in Finance or MBA education preferred.
  • Experience in Pharmaceutical/Biotech Industry, including cost accounting experience with exposure to manufacturing and/or supply chain
  • Minimum of 10-12 years accounting/finance experience with 7+ years in a management role
  • Ability to effectively influence and drive consensus across global cross-functional teams, and ability to interact with senior management.
  • Experience in identifying and implementing process improvements affecting other stakeholders
  • Experience in working with all levels and disciplines of people within a large organization
  • Strong analytical skill with the ability to analyze and understand large amounts of data
  • Proficient systems skills (SAP, Excel, Powerpoint, Access)
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to persuasively convey critical elements of complex issues.
