The Hospitality Finance Group (HFG) is a specialty lending division within Wells Fargo’s Commercial Real Estate platform that provides financial products and services to leading hotel owners throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Target customers include large, well-capitalized private owner/operators, institutional real estate funds dedicated to lodging investments, public and private hotel REIT’s, and C-Corps. HFG team members focus exclusively on the lodging sector across a variety of product types. Commercial Real Estate is a cyclical business, and our wide range of services gives us the flexibility to help our clients through even the most difficult economic cycles. Our underwriting analyzes People/Credit/Real Estate. Lending activities today emphasize refinancing hotel properties that are leaders in their competitive set, hotel acquisition and repositioning loans, and, on a very selective basis, hotel construction and redevelopment financing.

Wells Fargo is hiring for the role of Commercial Real Estate Analyst 1 in the Hospitality Finance Group, who will be directly responsible for supporting the management of a portfolio of assigned relationships and real estate loans, and underwriting of new real estate loan requests as well as the modification of existing loans.

YOUR ROLE AS A COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE FINANCIAL ANALYST
You will work closely with the relationship managers to underwrite real estate, develop a deep understanding of market fundamentals, and borrower’s balance sheet profiles. You will also assist relationship managers as they meet with their clients on a regular basis to ensure we continue to satisfy their needs and to identify future opportunities.

You will become an integral part of the HFG team and have the opportunity to assume a significant amount of responsibility that may include:

• Independently assembling complex financial models that project the potential financial performance of an asset as well as analyzing risks associated with project, market, and execution of the client’s business plan including the understanding and articulation of supply and demand dynamics, revenue and expense drivers, and capitalization rates
• Researching specific real estate markets and assessing market data and trends affecting demand generators, risk presented by new supply, and comparable properties
• Identifying and elevating credit issues to relationship managers and senior leadership early in the underwriting process and recommending ways to mitigate risk
• Monitoring existing loan portfolio and complete quarterly reporting updates in Wells Fargo’s proprietary reporting system to review monthly operating performance trends against prior periods and comparable properties
• Preparing borrower/guarantor financial review memorandums to analyze guarantor’s net worth, leverage, liquidity, and other key risk factors, including cash flows and ability to service debt
• Partnering with relationship managers and recommending structure on transactions
• Reviewing and assisting in the development of loan agreements and ancillary documents related to the closing of a transaction
• Participating in property tours and site visits to develop a deeper understanding of the viability of the real estate, its competitive set, and the market
• Reviewing and interpreting credit policies and procedures and incorporating requirements into credit analysis, lending recommendations, and quarterly reporting updates
• Working with relationship managers ensuring compliance with Wells Fargo’s ‘Know Your Customer’ BSA/AML requirements
• Engaging vendors to facilitate ordering and analyzing third-party reports, including appraisals, property condition reports, environmental reports, and costing analyses
• Acting as a mentor and coach to other CRE employees

There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 6 months of experience in one or a combination of the following: financial analysis, credit analysis, statistical analysis, or statement spreading demonstrated through work or military experience; or BS/BA degree or higher granted prior to hire date
