The Role: The Witness & Discovery Specialist will provide witness testimony for collection litigation matters involving Capital One’s credit card portfolio. Additionally, specialists will be expected to provide research and/or process support for business functions. This role will involve extensive travel for witness appearances at trials, depositions, settlement conferences, and hearings. The role will also involve a significant amount of interaction with internal and outside legal counsel, as well as customers and/or opposing counsel. Job responsibilities: Appearing at trials, hearings, and settlement conferences to authenticate account records and provide testimony regarding customer accounts Reviewing and analyzing account documents and legal pleadings to prepare for testimony Completing basic factual research including independently locating and gathering internal documents such as customer account documents, system notes, and information required to support collection litigation and, if necessary, providing required testimony Interaction with outside counsel, opposing counsel and/or customers Research and process support for Customer Resiliency projects Review of discovery responses for accuracy and completeness The successful candidate will have: An interest in law Experience with an in‐house legal department or law firm Understanding of litigation pleadings and procedures in state or federal courts Solid written and oral communication skills with the ability to persuade others to action Solid research skills Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple, simultaneous deadlines Professional demeanor and ability to work independently with limited direction on complex tasks This is a remote ‘work from home’ position based out of the New York area Ability to travel approximately 30% air travel and 60-70% local travel Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree At least 1 year experience with financial and consumer protection laws At least 1 year experience performing legal research At least 1 year experience with courtroom proceedings Preferred Qualifications: Juris Doctorate 1 years experience reviewing discovery 2 years experience working with an in-house legal department or in a law firm 2 years experience with financial and consumer protection laws 2 years experience performing legal research 2 years experience with courtroom proceedings No agencies please.
