Youth Career Manager

Primary Responsibility / Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator or Program Manager, Youth Career Advisor is responsible for assessing the clients’ need for services and providing appropriate case management to help the clients reach employment and education goals. This position is grant funded by WIOA Formula Youth Program, Year Around Summer Youth Employment Program and any other youth programs(s). Continuation of employment Is solely based on grant awards or grant renewal.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assesses youth to determine academic, vocational and/or supportive service needs.
  2. Develops Individual Service Strategy for youth (ISS) and updates according to Funder guidelines.
  3. Monitors worksites according to contractual agreement.
  4. Answers telephone calls regarding services; follows up with inquiring youth.
  5. Performs data entry into CalJobs, Jobs LA , ETO and any other mandated database as required by the contract and/or GSC.
  6. Ensures that youth receive appropriate employment linkages and other services.
  7. Maintains contact with network partners to ensure that youth are receiving appropriate services.
  8. Documents all client contact and services used by clients in the participant case files at least twice each month.
  9. Follows up with clients after services have been rendered to determine if service was successful, or additional service is needed and provides quarterly follow up service for clients for 12 months after exit from service.
  10. Ensures expenditures for each participant are within specified guidelines as determined by supportive services, career services policies, Training and OJT agreements, Work Experience and GSC policy.
  11. Obtains 40-hours of professional development training each year.
  12. Driving records must be acceptable by Company’s insurance vendor.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • 1 year of working experience with disadvantaged or at-risk youth and some clerical experience.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) experience Preferred.
  • Good communication and people skills with young adults.
  • Abilities to work in a fast pace environment with demonstrated results.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Flexibility in work hours.
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision.
  • Spanish / English bilingual preferred.

  • Punctual and dependable attendance.
  • Free from alcohol and drug abuse.

English Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

  • Must have advanced knowledge proficiency of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, and E-mail.
