Job Summary:
The Safety & Training Manager is responsible to ensure that all job specific training for the distribution centers positions have been completed and certified. Ensure all new hires are fully and properly trained on company policies and procedures, safety, and preferred methods using specified best one-way training methods.
- Training:
- Educate employees on regulations and or compliance with but not limited to DOT, FMCSA, AIB, and OSHA regulations.
- Develop, maintain, and manage a fresh and current Corporate Training Program for all employees in compliance with Corporate requirements, OSHA, DOT, AIB, and other key regulations.
- Establish/maintain training and documentation of programs, including but not limited to: Lockout/Tagout, Hazardous Communication, Emergency Response, New Hire Orientation, among others.
- Assist with additional safety programs including, but no limited to: Powered Industrial Truck, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, Hearing Conservation, PPE, Behavior-Based Safety, and Fleet Transportation Safety.
- Oversee the execution of our company training programs at the required duration, quality, quantity, and effectiveness to include new hires and more experienced associates. Adjust resources and time commitments as necessary to ensure the staff is always full trained. Focus on new hire onboarding as new hires are a primary source of safety incidences.
- Coach Leaders in the proper safety processes and procedures, training methodology, and topics for Onboard new employees to ensure they are provided with Safety expectations and ensure their unwavering training material and meetings.
- commitment to Safety Policy, Core Safety Beliefs, Core Safety Absolutes, and Perfect Safety. Manage Safety KPI and conduct trend analysis to identify areas of opportunities. Using Company’s incident database identify key at-risk behaviors, develop, and manage the monthly and annual corporate training program to support driving key Safety Performance and Safety Culture change.
- Ensure all training guides, materials, videos, job aides, and other means of communication for training purposes are readily available and in active use.
- Drive a structured training plan using proper tracking tools to monitor and validate compliance with our training program requirements. Address deficiencies and risks with operations management to secure proper resources and alignment with training demands.
- Engage regularly and directly with new hires on their progress and the effectiveness of the training they are receiving. Tailor training methods and frequency to optimize opportunities for success for everyone.
- Determine the appropriate additional or renewed training, considering changes in operation, modernization regarding new exposures, accident histories, and any associate returning from an extended absence.
- Safety:

- Foster/develop a culture where safety is ingrained as a core value with all employees, everyone believes zero is achievable, everyone is actively engaged in performing their work in a safe manner, everyone actively interacts with co-workers to prevent at-risk behaviors.
- Coordinate safety programs for the Distribution Center under the direction of the Division Safety Leader and Division Management to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths and financial losses
- Actively address unsafe behaviors and engage with operations management to enforce the required safety disciplines by all associates on all shifts. Constantly promote a culture of prevention by identifying all potentialunsafe conditions and behaviors and leading the effort among all associates to address them.

- Ensures Corporate Occupational and Health Safety Policy is adhered to by all employees. Maintain written health and safety strategies, programs, policies, and procedures.
- Participate and ensure compliance with annual safety audit schedules. Conduct periodic inspections to identify and address potentially hazards in the workplace. Follows up to correct deficiencies and ensure effectiveness of corrective actions. Verify and enforce compliance, engaging directly with distribution center management to review audit findings, secure proper resources and follow-up to resolve issues and immediately correct compliance gaps.
- Works with Divisions teams to investigate all accidents and incidents, develop and implement plans to address deficiencies, and follow up on action items closure. Assist other Divisions in their accident investigations, as requested to share knowledge and experiences, and discuss industry trends and best practices which can be leveraged across all distribution centers.
- Empower employees to use the Safety Empowerment Card to address unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviors. Develop cohesive action plans to achieve Best-In-Class safety performance.
- Implement Corporate Safety Policies and assist in developing and implementing site-specific safety policies and safe work procedures.
- Work with Procurement to approve suppliers as part of the Supplier Selection and Performance Management Process.
- Develop and maintain new HSE programs, HSE Manuals, policies, and procedures. Ensure Safety Policies, Procedures, Forms are current and controlled.
- Develop and implement programs, processes and procedures (SOP’s) to ensure Site compliance with company and regulatory agency policies
- Participate in the thorough and complete investigation of all accidents, incidents, and near misses to ensure proper mitigations and resolutions are permanently implemented. Focus on communication to all associates regarding the incidences and preventions which have been put into place and their role in maintaining a safe workplace is a must. Provide for any required documentation and/or involvement with internal safety leadership or outside government agencies as the situation warrants.
- Evaluate all manner of safety communication and visual guides on the floor including signage, mirrors, banners, display boards, floor line markings, etc., and work directly with maintenance and others to drive effective use of these tools. Provide safety messages and tips to operations management daily so they can be included in the daily shift startup meetings.
- Engage periodically with our Environmental Health and Safety Team and other Safety and Training Supervisors to coordinate safety training development and rollouts,
- Prepare and present management reports enough to identify the frequency, severity and expense of company losses as measured by report delivery by the third week of each month.
- Participate in accident investigations utilizing root cause analysis, identifying hazards, and implementing solutions to address safety risks
- Manage maintenance of emergency safety devices (i.e. eye wash stations, fire extinguishers, AED)
- Execute other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management, or related field preferred.
Five years of experience in safety or training required.
Preferred Qualifications
Train the trainer certified
OSHA certified
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Extensive knowledge of warehouse operations and loss prevention strategies and procedures.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare reports and documentation.
