Vice President of Learning

The Vice President of Academic Affairs reports directly to the College President and is a member of the senior leadership team.  Working collaboratively with the Vice President of Student Services and the Vice President of Administrative Services, the Vice President of Student Services serves as the Chief Instructional Officer and is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, administering, and supervising the academic and instructional programs of the college.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university; and completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.  The required degree must be conferred at the time of filing an application.
  • Sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of successful full-time administrative experience (dean or higher) in accredited institutions of higher education.
  • Successful full-time experience as a faculty member in accredited institutions of higher education.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience in working with a population (faculty, staff, and students) of diverse ethnic, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the California Education Code related to Instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in participatory governance, consensus building and team management.
  • Doctorate preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1)    Serves as the chief instructional officer.

2)    Serves as a regular member of the college president’s senior leadership team.

3)    Supervises the recruitment, orientation, and evaluation of both full-time and part-time staff in academic affairs.

4)    Assists with the development of new educational programs and supervises all instructional activities while maintaining adherence to the Education Code, Title 5, federal regulations, Board policy, District administrative regulations and collective bargaining agreements.

5)    Promotes participatory governance in cooperation with faculty, staff, students, and administration.

6)    Provides leadership and vision to strengthen and implement a variety of new and existing instructional programs.

7)    Coordinates instructional college development including long-range planning, funding, and liaison with federal, state, and private agencies.

8)    Provides leadership and oversight of program review, program viability, student success initiatives, student learning outcomes and the accreditation process for all areas under academic affairs.

9)    Serves as the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO).

10) Supervises the publication of college schedule of classes, catalog, and instructional information on the college website.

11) In collaboration with the Vice President of Student Services, develops and implements an enrollment management plan, including enrollment planning and analysis.

12) In collaboration with the Vice President of Administrative Services, ensures that attention is paid to overall college fiscal health and financial stability.

13) Assumes the duties, obligations, and responsibilities of the College President, as assigned, during his/her absence.

14) Performs other duties as assigned by the College President within the scope of the position.
