Job Description

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles Vice President of Mission Advancement (VP) role will identify new opportunities to grow portfolio engagement across all fundraising channels to increase revenue, including corporate partnerships, local, city, and state government partnerships, commercial co-ventures, special events and individual giving.

A successful VP will manage and steward a portfolio of corporate and individual relationships and work as a team player to drive growth that achieves our mission and revenue goals.

This position is accountable for significant revenue targets and will influence the strategic implementation of local and nationwide initiatives.

In addition, the VP will demonstrate effective leadership and mobilization of volunteers, increase corporate relationships, meet market fundraising goals and build awareness for the Association. 

The ideal VP must have a proven track record of success in fundraising and/or sales and relationship management.

Exceptional organizational and written and verbal communication skills are necessary for this position, as is the ability to multitask, meet deadlines and achieve results in a team environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree and 5 years of nonprofit, fundraising and/or sales experience preferred with relevant major
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and nonprofit leadership
  • Proven record of success in account management and developing corporate partnerships that result in exceeding revenue targets
  • Experience developing or working with a planned giving program
  • Outcome-driven, with the ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Ability to manage and motivate groups and individuals
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong market, community and constituent perspective
  • Proficiency in computer-based information systems
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends

Essential Functions

1.

Partner closely with board of director members, branch executive directors, board of manager members, and other key volunteer and staff leaders to develop and implement project-specific plans to achieve capital campaign goals including the following responsibilities for each campaign.

2.

Provides strategic leadership, creating and executing fundraising strategies to raise $750,000-$1 million annually from corporations; works to grow additional avenues of corporate revenue.

    Develops an annual business plan to meet financial targets clearly identifying and monitoring strategies, and assuring that the campaign remains on schedule and achieves the financial goals.

3.

Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with organizations, municipalities, and other entities that share an alignment with the YMCA.

4.

Establish and cultivate partnership relationships in alignment with funders and collaborators in order to secure individual, corporate, foundation, and other institutions.

5.

Serves as a key member of the development team influencing and driving strategy, relationships and best practices to accomplish market and financial goals.

6.

Responsible for developing and stewarding a portfolio of relationships from the corporate community to provide funding for our mission (sponsorship, retail campaigns, event teams, grants, donations and other partnerships)

    Conduct prospect research and complete research profiles of key prospective donors.

  • 2.

    Develop and manage prospective donor tracking lists, matrices, and pipeline reports with request targets and strategies.

7.

Creates, implements manages and assesses comprehensive donor relations plan to support the organizations fundraising efforts including responding to donor concerns and/or requests, gift acknowledgments, program information and stewardship.

8.

Fosters a positive, ongoing relationship with donors and ensures a long-term relationship is forged by maintaining contact and proactively educating donors.

9.

Designs and implements growth and retention strategies with existing donors and opportunities to forge new donor relationships.

Oversees development of and manages donor and fundraising events.

10.

Develops revenue projections and provides financial analysis.

11.

Oversees stewardship activities; ensures a high-touch response to partners and donors.

12.

Experience supervising and managing a diverse and geographically distributed team with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, delegate responsibility, and inspire, engage and motivate staff.

13.

Explores appropriate licensing activities and special promotions with corporate partners.

14.

Recruits and leads high-level volunteers to provide local leadership, resources and partnerships.

15.

Drives donor-centric partnerships to support financial goals of market events, programs and prioritized initiatives.

16.

Delivers a high level of customer service to all constituents.

17.

Manages, hires, evaluates, develops and mentors a team of talented fundraising professionals.

18.

Ensures compliance with Association policies, including employment, risk management, event and cash handling, and financial controls.

19.

Demonstrates integrity, collaboration and stewardship.

20.

Experience working with donor database software, preferably Raisers Edge.

21.

Ability and willingness to travel within Los Angeles County.

22.

Reliable means of transportation for onsite and off-site work.

23.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven track record of developing and completing capital campaigns, closing charitable contributions, meeting and exceeding revenue goals, and measuring outcomes
  • Strong strategic planning, organizational, and implementation skills
  • Demonstrated results in securing, activating, and managing sponsorship, donor, cause marketing, or other corporate partner relationships
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills, including the ability to tell compelling stories and deliver persuasive presentations
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and prospects, building respect, consensus and trust
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communications skills (both verbal and writing), including the ability to make presentations; comfortable articulating ideas and concepts to others; ability to respond to questions and comments
