Responsibilities

As a Tax Manager in our Cannabis practice, you will use your expertise in taxation to oversee, manage, and complete tax projects; provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance for a variety of clients in the cannabis industry. Our cannabis practice is growing at a fast pace, proving opportunities to be part of an exciting and challenging industry. As a tax professional within AAFCPAs, your job duties will be focused on our core values of technical expertise, hard work, and excellent quality client service.

  • Will review business tax returns including 1120, 1120S and 1065
  • Meet with clients to assess their current needs and propose solutions
  • Develop and sustain strong client relationships to become their most trusted business advisor
  • Keep up-to-date on current tax procedures and changes in tax regulations/laws
  • Actively participate in internal and external tax trainings
  • Plan and manage budgets, billing, and staffing
  • Manage engagements effectively to ensure exceptional client service
  • Train, supervise, and delegate assignments to tax seniors and staff
  • Review complex tax returns and associated workpapers prepared by staff and senior associates and provide timely, specific, and meaningful feedback
  • Lead and mentor staff to meet individual professional development goals
  • Provide constructive feedback to both superiors and subordinates through the semi-annual review process
  • Identify new client and business development opportunities

Qualifications

  • 7+ years public accounting experience with an emphasis on taxation (i.e. Tax Accountant)
  • Experience in private/public accounting working with commercial and cannabis clients
  • Knowledge of 280E and other tax specific nuances with companies working in this industry
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple client engagements with a financial accounting background.
  • Strong experience with corporate tax, tax provision, and multi corporation
  • Strong public accounting management experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple high-level works
  • CPA License
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Accounting or Tax
