The Project: Stay Housed LA (SHLA) is a collaboration between ten legal service organizations and over a dozen community based organizations. SHLA provides outreach, education, legal services and rental assistance to tenants in the City and County of Los Angeles. The City of LA’s mayor’s fund is supporting this new initiative within SHLA to increase pro bono participation in SHLA.

The SHLA Pro Bono Pipeline Manager Position was created to develop a StayHousedLA pro bono pipeline project to create a path from law student to SHLA staff or pro bono attorney through recruitment of law students for volunteer opportunities, paid internships, fellowships, and other pipeline efforts. Working with the LAFLA Pro Bono team and their respective SHLA pro bono coordinators, the SHLA Pro Bono Pipeline Manager will facilitate a strategic approach to outreach and recruitment of law students with the help of SHLA pro bono coordinators and other SHLA staff.

Qualifications:

  • Active membership in the California State Bar;
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in legal services, including broad experience in project management, training, quantitative and qualitative data collection, survey design, data assessment and maintenance;
  • Knowledge and at least 1-2 years’ experience of the pro bono “systems” in California;
  • Knowledge and at least 1-2 years’ experience working within the law school recruitment systems;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory setting supervising other staff members;
  • Enthusiasm for working with volunteers and strategic innovation and expansion of legal services for low-income Californians;
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills, including ability to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to think strategically, balance short and long-term objectives, and to lead collaboratively;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive relations with diverse populations and work cooperatively and effectively with individuals at all levels;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to collect, analyze and summarize data on a strategic level for project planning and reporting;
  • Strong computer and technical problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address problems strategically and efficiently;
  • Willingness and ability to travel offsite.

Examples of Duties:

  • Develop SHLA law student to attorney pipeline project plan including timeline and yearly calendar of events;
  • Work closely with SHLA pro bono coordinators to develop, execute and coordinate pipeline efforts among SHLA programs including internships, law student stipends, fellowships, and other SHLA developed pipeline projects;
  • Work closely with SHLA pro bono coordinators to develop and execute outreach, convenings and other recruitment efforts to increase law student participation in SHLA pipeline projects;
  • Work with pro bono coordinators and SHLA staff to identify training and development needs of law students for SHLA volunteer projects;
  • Develop and implement internal SHLA tracking systems related law student outreach, volunteer recruitment and participation, project tracking, and reporting with assistance from pro bono coordinator staff;
  • Manage and oversee administrative assistant tasks related to SHLA law student recruitment and outreach efforts;
  • Build and maintain external relationships and engage in collaborative SHLA pro bono efforts with law schools and other related stakeholders;
  • Facilitate and coordinate meetings to support SHLA Pro bono project partnership with law schools and pro bono stakeholders.
  • Work with SHLA communications and pro bono staff to develop media and/or social media strategies to advance SHLA related law student pipeline outreach efforts;
  • Participate in conferences and meetings virtually or in-person on pipeline and law student recruitment efforts related to SHLA.
