Senior Vice President, Industry Relations – Telecommute from Multiple Locations

The Senior Vice President, Industry Relations leads the team responsible for the contracting strategy and negotiations with over 150 pharmaceutical companies.  Being able to create productive relationships with Pharmaceutical Manufacturers is key to the success of the Industry Relations team.  Also, a strong leader is required to manage internal relationships across a large and diverse organization, including executive and C-suite leadership across the enterprise.

This position is a senior leadership position on the Cost of Goods (COGS) Team. This position is responsible for leading, managing and overseeing the negotiation process for pharmaceutical manufacturer rebate contracts that not only bring value to the OptumRx operation but also limit financial risk for OptumRx clients’ drug spend.  This position has complete accountability and oversight of the achievement of financial goals and objectives associated with the execution of rebate contract agreements.  Additionally, this leadership position has client-facing responsibilities, representing OptumRx.    

This position requires a dynamic, solutions-oriented individual who can operate in a complex environment, delivering strong results and accountability. The incumbent must have high integrity and values and be capable of managing across a challenging internal organization.
 
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of the OptumRx Rebate Contracting Team
  • Develop, translate and execute strategies or functional/operational objectives for all internal and external Commercial lines of business
  • Lead operational execution of Formulary strategies with multiple cross-functional teams through the Formulary Management and Business Implementation Committees
  • Drive rigorous analytics to assess formulary strategies prior to and after strategy implementation  
  • Apply network configuration and incentive-based payment models as appropriate to improve quality and efficiency
  • Direct others to resolve highly complex or unusual business problems that affect major functions or disciplines
  • Drive programs that impact markets of customers and consumers
  • This position is responsible for leading a team of people who negotiate rebate contracts with Pharmaceutical Manufacturers
  • Responsible for client-facing engagements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA or master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years progressive experience in the healthcare industry with pharmaceutical manufacturer and/or PBM and/or pharmacy supply chain experience preferred
  • Expertise in pharma negotiations, with strong background in reimbursement across all books of business (e.g. commercial, medicare, Medicaid).
  • Background partnering with business stakeholders to define long term strategies, leveraging standardized business processes, data & analytics with a focus on continuous improvement and performance management
  • Proficiency in strategy and change leadership, demonstrated ability to develop and drive a holistic strategy and successfully lead large-scale change and transition
  • Strong executive presence with both written and verbal communication abilities across all audiences
  • Drive to deliver outcomes and engage cross-functionally, with a track record of consistently achieving desired results
  • Experience developing effective partnerships and networks, collaborating and influencing broadly at multiple levels in the organization, including but not limited to Industry and Network, Client, Clinical, Analytics, Product, Finance, and Executive Leadership 
  • Experience leading and developing a geographically dispersed, high performing team
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability and initiative

  • Ability to operate with flexibility in a changing business and government regulated environment

  • Ability to travel as needed, approximately 20-35%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, Pharmacy degree, RPh, or PharmD
