R&D Team and Project Manager

The R&D Team Manager plays an important role, driving and fostering a culture of innovation within the department while assisting the R&D Manager to plan and manage R&D activities and resources.

In this position, you will support the development of projects and identify the budget for a specific functional area.

Reporting to the R&D Team Manager, responsible for Design, development, and project management for Low Voltage Switchgear for the North America market.

Your responsibilities Technical and scientific proficiency and leadership: Serves as technical resource for internal (R&D colleagues and management) and external contacts (customers, technical groups, and R&D funding bodies, etc).

Technology direction: Creates technology roadmaps for LV Switchgear ANSI.

Provides input to leadership regarding technology strategy planning Innovation and creativity: Drives and fosters a culture of innovation within the team Projects, processes, and tools: Leads and manages complex projects and coordinates work of multi-location and cross-functional project team/s.

Motivates and monitors internal and/or external resources to accomplish all tasks and milestones Manages the cost, schedule, and performance objectives of the projects within a program.

Manages interdependencies between projects to realize specified benefits.

Ensures appropriate requirements within a program by partnering with relevant business unit/s or other customers.

Develops business case.

Plans and ensures an optimal project portfolio for the team.

Plans capacity, people, and resources for R&D projects.

Oversees efficient, timely and quality project execution using the most appropriate internal and external resources and partners (e.g.

universities, Corporate Research Centers.

Recommends, develops, and improves processes and procedures to enhance local operations Applies appropriate development and quality standards and monitors local product quality and change requests to identify and resolve issues Stakeholder relations: Serves as the key contact for stakeholders, and an escalation point for program/project issues.

Effectively communicates appropriate information to stakeholders in a timely manner and to achieve desired understanding and support.

Knowledge transfer: Supports and oversees transfers of technology and knowledge within the team, between internal partners (Local and Global Business Units and laboratories) Collaboration: Leads in partnership with business managers, steering committees, product management, other internal functions and external parties.

Coordinates activities with product and business management Actively contributes to technical bodies both inside and outside the Company.

Promotes ABB R&D Internally and externally to foster cooperation and knowledge sharing with external resources and communities.

Builds, develops, and maintains strong relationships with internal and external (customers, universities, etc) contacts Intellectual property and risk management: Ensures action is taken to manage risks and that appropriate consideration is given to IP issues when collaborating with other parties.

Responsible for risk and opportunity assessment and mitigation strategy in own area Finance and Budget: Prepares annual and multi-year budget in cooperation with Product Group Technology Manager People leadership and development: Manages assigned resources for R&D Activities, assigns tasks to team members, and supervises workload and work allocation within the project team.

Ensures appropriate competencies are developed and acquired within the team to support development of future products and systems.

Conducts performances reviews and people resource administrative activities Your background Bachelor’s degree and 10 years in a product design related role, Master’s degree in engineering discipline and 5 years of hands on design experience preferred.

Minimum of 5 years in LV Switchgear R&D role Demonstrated Expertise in Creo and Windchill usage Exceptional analytical, communication and leadership skills Project planning and oversite experience management Demonstrated presentation/influence skills Interested in leading and developing a team of engineer.

Experience in Low Voltage ANSI / IEC Switchboard / Switchgear / MCC design Experienced user of Agile development process and tools ANSI standards/UL knowledge Type Testing knowledge at independent labs Creo and Windchill 3D software super user experience Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
