Job Summary:
The Protection and Control Technical Manager is responsible for leading the
Protection and Control Engineering business line. They will develop and execute
plans to align business goals with the market and growth of the Practice. This
includes building core capabilities within their responsible area, developing
solutions for Transmission Practice pains, and ensuring high quality delivery
of projects to our clients. This role is primarily internally facing to ensure
the timely delivery of innovative solutions while keeping abreast of market and
technology trends in the industry. In addition, this role is central to
identifying and developing programs and projects in the Practice to ensure a
high level of expertise, performance, and client focus to stay ahead of the
competition.
Success in this role requires proven electric utility expertise combined with business acumen and a
consulting mindset to deliver technical and business solutions that align with
the vision of being the partner of choice. This role has a particular focus
on the development, implementation, support, and improvement: of internal
project/portfolio management; of quality management systems; of Practice level
financial reporting and controls; and of existing and emerging business
technologies to facilitate the efficient operation of the Transmission
Practice. This position is key to
overall continued growth of the Transmission Practice. Essential Functions:
Assist with the development and implementation of
strategic plans to meet Transmission Practice goals of client satisfaction,
business and technical performance, and employee engagement
Development,
implementation, support, and improvement of the Transmission Practice
Protection and Control portfolio management system and processes. Works closely with key stakeholders to assist
in the optimization of a robust project management regime within the
Transmission Practice.
Support,
improve and ensure compliance with the Transmission Practice Quality Management
System (QMS).
Implements
the QMS Continuous Improvement Process in area of responsibility. Work with the other Management Team members
of the Transmission Practice to fully implement a functioning NCCAPA Process.
Support,
improve and ensure compliance with the Transmission Practice financial
project/portfolio reporting and controls including tracking and resolution of
issues with project budgets and schedules and leading resolution of past due
account receivables issues.
Work
closely with Actalent Services Backoffice on Invoicing/Account Receivables
process improvements.
Development,
implementation, support, and improvement of existing and emerging business
technologies and processes needed to ensure the efficient operation of the
Transmission Practice.
Monitor
and manage project budgets. Plan,
control, and allocate resources required to meet objectives of assigned
programs and projects
Build
and maintain strong internal relationships within the Actalent Services
Work
with the Transmission Practice Management Team/Leadership to facilitate
workflow development, project scope development and risk assessment, issues
resolution, and work forecasting and planning
Develop
and implement employee performance and development plans to meet individual
development and growth, and overall program goals; includes primary responsibility
for talent management including overall hiring and termination decisions
Other
duties as required Direct Supervisory or Management Responsibilities:
Execute managerial responsibilities in
accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws as
needed. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training
employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;
rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving
problems. Minimum Education/Abilities/Skills:
Bachelors
Degree in Electrical Engineering is required; Degrees in related engineering
field may be considered on a case-by-case basis; Advanced degree is a plus.
Professional Engineering (PE) and the ability to take Responsible Charge over
PCE Projects is required.
Expert
knowledge in Protection and Control Engineering and Design utilizing ACAD-E is
preferred.
Experience
utilizing Protection and Control Applications tools within the electric utility
industry.
Experience
leading multi-disciplinary teams, including PCE subject matter experts, on past
projects. + Proven technical/managerial capabilities in developing solutions to business problems and managing deliverables and client expectations + Experienced in customizing Protection and Control offerings to create client value and to lower engagement costs + A minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in the electric utility industry, with at least 5 years of professional Protection and Control Engineering experience + Must have demonstrated management experience leading large technical teams. + Proven entrepreneurial competencies including leadership, effective communications, and the ability to build organizations and capabilities.
Proven
written, oral, and presentation skills and the ability to conduct meetings with
high-level decision makers
Ability
to effectively communicate and partner across cross-functional teams and roles
