The Principal Product Manager will be a member of Investment Group Technologies, a new and growing team within Capital Group. This leader will drive best-in-class technology solutions that support all of Capital’s $2.0T+ in assets under management. This role presents significant intellectual and technical challenges with enormous opportunity for business impact. Capital is expanding the use of data engineering and data science across every facet of the firm’s activities. The product leader in this role will develop technology for our core Investment Research and Management teams, with a focus on data and tools for environmental, social, and governance investing (ESG).
Our Investment Research and Management teams serve 55 million customers. Our mission since 1931 has been to improve their lives through successful long-term investing. Looking to the future, we are in a unique position to make an even bigger difference to these investors, harnessing our distinctive investment research process, built on eight decades of proprietary data and research insights, and coupled with our data-grounded and customer-focused approach to building software. This professional will be passionate about our mission and driving for superior long-term investment results through the application of modern engineering and analytical methods. Reporting to the VP, Product Management, s/he will partner with internal stakeholders in the Investment and Technology groups to define the optimal product/feature set, be the leader who aligns stakeholders, and drives delivery.
This role will be responsible for:
- Supporting the definition of the product vision based on in-person research with customers to gain end-to-end real-world understanding of customer needs and product value. Being the voice of the customer with Capital’s engineering teams.
- Supporting the creation of a Capital-wide ESG platform, connecting lots of disparate research data sets to the investment process. Helping to define the strategic roadmap in the critical and evolving landscape for ESG data and integration, guiding the technology build needed to support the vision, and evangelizing the initiative across the organization.
- Assisting in the ideation process to create products that increase customer value.
- Leveraging data analysis skills to research difficult or ambiguous problems.
Desired Characteristics
- Track record of software product management in a financial data and analytics firm such as Factset, S&P, Bloomberg, Refinitiv, MSCI, PitchBook, Reuters or equivalent
- Quantitative mindset. Ability to develop a business case and establish key business outcome and customer metrics to secure program resources and measure impact.
- Business perspective. Expertise at the intersection of the financial, technical, and customer domains to drive business value.
- Program leadership. Ability to shape and drive large-scale, cross-functional, multi-level programs around people, technology, processes, and tools – balancing long term strategy with quick wins.
- Personal integrity and desire to work in a collaborative culture built on shared values.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s in Business, Finance, Computer Science or related field.
- Minimum of 6 years product management experience, having defined and shipped a major product or portfolio of products
- Minimum of 3 years financial data and analytics product experience, working with investors
- Superior analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems. In particular, identifying customer needs and inventing new ways to meet those needs.
- Successful collaboration skills and tools that focus on earning trust. Excellent listening skills. Clear, concise, accurate communication (both verbal and written) with audiences of varying technical abilities and senior leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality technology products in a complex, fast paced environment. High degree of organization and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.

- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and prioritize multiple projects. Ability to develop new ideas and creative solutions.
- Successful track record operating productively within mission critical production systems with the highest standards of data reliability, integrity, and security.

- Ability to champion and inspire others to understand data and digital tools as a strategic business asset to drive significant growth opportunities across the firm.
