OYC Associate Director

The Alliance for Children’s Rights is seeking a dynamic and goal-driven professional, to collaborate in leading complex programs and partnerships for the Los Angeles Opportunity Youth Collaborative. The OYC Associate Director, supporting the work of the OYC Director, will work with community organizations, educational institutions, employers, public agencies to improve education and employment outcomes for teens and young adults who are or have been in foster care. The Associate Director will co-facilitate the OYC Young Leaders program, share information across Los Angeles County, and represent the OYC at meetings, educational programs, and events. This is an exempt, full-time paid position.

About The Alliance: The Alliance for Children’s Rights is a nonprofit organization that provides free holistic legal services and advocacy to youth and families impacted by child welfare and juvenile justice systems in Los Angeles County, and works to enact policy changes statewide. The Opportunity Youth Collaborative (OYC) Team: The OYC is an exciting initiative that mobilizes cross-sector agencies, community-based programs, youth voice, and investments of the Los Angeles region to improve three key outcomes for transition-age foster and cross-over probation youth, ages 14 – 24:

  1. High School Proficiency and Completion (graduation or GED attainment)
  2. Post-secondary enrollment and completion
  3. Workforce readiness and gainful employment with a living wage

The OYC envisions a united network of partners from government, education, workforce, provider, philanthropic, and community sectors to support success and wellbeing for transition age foster youth. The OYC currently leads three primary projects: Foster Youth at Work, OYC Young Leaders, and the Foster Youth College Advancement Project.

What Your Impact Will Be:

● Develop partnerships and maintain working relationships with public and private partner organizations and young adults, to increase resources and collaboration across systems and silos
● Develop activities to motivate participants and partnerships to be engaged in the OYC
● Recruit allies in Los Angeles County systems and community-based organizations to contribute to the OYC’s goals
● Co-facilitate the OYC Young Leaders training program in partnership with the OYC Outreach and Engagement Fellow
● Supervise the OYC Outreach and Engagement Fellow
● Plan, facilitate, and present at workshops and convenings
● Represent the OYC and the Alliance at meetings and conferences
● Make appropriate referrals to connections and resources for OYC partners
● Report on OYC activities and information at department and organizational meetings, and conduct departmental staff meetings as requested
● Provide thought leadership to help conceptualize actionable opportunities and outcomes, and provide supporting documents to OYC Director
● Create written descriptions of OYC goals, activities, and projects
● Handle client issues to meet a solution in a timely manner
● Be knowledgeable of all department grants and deliverables, and work with the Development team on funding prospects and proposals to advance project agendas
● Work with Communications staff to assist in communications for the OYC
● Other duties as assigned
● This position reports to the OYC Director

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

● Eight years of work experience, with at least one year working with youth in foster care
● Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
● Outstanding organizational and follow-through skills
● Excellent written and spoken communication skills
● Passion for and commitment to helping youth
● Ability to build rapport and work effectively with teens and young adults who have experienced foster care
● Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage competing tasks and goals
● Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others with diverse perspective and backgrounds
● Excellent problem-solving skills applicable to organizations and institutions
● Strong work ethic, dedication, and enthusiasm for taking on responsibility
● Ability to work some evenings and weekends
● Demonstrated ability to work as team member with a pleasant and collegial approach
● Flexibility and openness to dynamic systems and changing priorities
● Ability to work effectively in high stress situations
● Strong computer skills with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Suite
● Current driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance
● Leadership experience working with community social service, youth leadership, workforce development, or education strongly preferred
● Experience in systems change, youth leadership, workforce development, or educational institutions is a plus
