Operations Manager West – Water Division

OverviewThis position oversees the execution of multiple projects throughout the Western United States. It is responsible for the safe planning and execution of projects to achieve or exceed financial and schedule targets.What you will be doing* Collaborates with the regional leadership in each project to ensure proper staffing and technical expertise are allocated to achieve success.* Participates in monthly financial reviews of each project, as well as periodic strategy reviews, leads project teams in safety, quality, cost control, cash management, scheduling and other performance metrics.* Supports the business development team and divisional leadership in selection of project pursuits considering the competitive landscape and company strengths.* Supports the estimating team, advises on technical and commercial aspects of contracts, and actively participates in bid reviews and risk analysis sessions.* Supports proposal development on alternative delivery projects with technical feedback, participates and/or leads client meetings and interviews.* Through market knowledge and industry contacts, supports staffing efforts on new projects.* Advises regional operations on internal employee transfers based on skills and job demands as needed.* Collaborates with Company Procurement Division to negotiate favorable commercial contracts that minimize risk and are in line with the bid or proposal.* Supports the project teams by coordinating Company support through active and regular engagement with various corporate departments including: safety, finance, project controls, equipment, construction engineering, technical services, design management, and human resources.* Understands the Company’s Safety Policies and actively participates in all aspects of the Company safety program and enforces Company and project safety plans on all projects at all times to ensure Company and sub-contractor safety compliance and performance.* Ensures quality is built into all aspects of each project and process – ensures zero re-work.* Evaluates project activities to determine compliance with government regulatory agencies and coordinate with agencies for permit requirements and environmental regulations.* Builds a strong relationship with each project Owner and maintains a positive relationship through partnering and regular communication.* Develops a robust understanding of each contract ensures notices, change orders, disputes, and claims are actively managed.* Reviews and monitors each project schedule on a monthly basis and ensures compliance with Company and contract schedule requirements.* Reviews and ensures project activities are planned before work has started and quantities, cost, and budgets for each activity are tracked to ensure profitability.* Reviews daily, weekly, monthly cost results and always takes actions to reduce costs.* Travels to jobsites and Company offices in the Western US when necessary.* Maintains knowledge of Company values and strategic plan.* Perform additional assignments per management’s direction.What we are looking for* 15+ years’ experience in heavy civil construction with expanding responsibility and a focus on water/wastewater treatment and conveyance is required.* 10+ years’ experience managing construction teams required.* Experience with advanced wastewater treatment systems/processes is preferred.* Bachelor’s Degree as well as relevant certifications (PE, DBIA, LEED AP, Envision, etc.) are a plus.* Experience with alternative project delivery methods (design-build, progressive design-build, CM at Risk, CM/GC) is a strong plus.* Strong understanding of heavy civil and water/wastewater project cycle (design, construction, commissioning, operations) and business and financial risk management experience required.
