A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles.

APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities.

As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them.

Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.

Our mission is to serve youth and families directly and the optimal way to do that is in person.

The majority of our positions require employees to work onsite at our facilities.

We will always comply with or exceed government and public health safety mandates.

Our priorities and policies to protect the safety and health of our staff and members may require special protocols on our campus and/or may require us to work remotely on a temporary basis.

APCH COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
A Place Called Home will be mandating COVID-19 vaccines for our staff.

Consistent with our mission and values, and the duty to provide and maintain a workplace free of recognized hazards, A Place Called Home (“APCH”) has adopted this policy to safeguard the health and well-being of our staff and our families, members and their families, volunteers, vendors, and others who spend time on our campus, and the community, from the risks associated with COVID-19.

All new hires must provide proof of their first dose of the vaccine on the first day of employment, if not fully vaccinated, and will have 30 days from their date of hire to complete their COVID-19 vaccination and submit proof of completion to the organization’s HR department.

The Music Program at A Place Called Home is the agency’s most tenured program offering its participants free hands-on music education taught by professional music educators, offering basic exposure based learning and intermediate/advanced education.

For members who have found music as a passion, there are opportunities for them to continue their learning through other opportunities.

The music program has been partnered with the Berklee City Music Network
– Berklee College of Music for (add number of years).

Members learn music theory through the Berklee Pulse method and members fifteen and up have the opportunity to earn a scholarship to attend the Berklee Five Week Intensive during the summer and learn amongst their peers.

Other opportunities offered in this program include youth ensemble performances, album production, career pathway development, and collaboration with community partners.

The Music Program Assistant Manager is an organized yet creative individual who has a passion for music but is experienced in administration, staff management, youth development and overall sees themself able to balance between being an artist and an administrator.

This individual must have an understanding of how to inspire youth, teach multiple styles of music, including musicianship, theory, and curriculum development/lesson planning, as well as have an understanding and experience with youth engagement and afterschool programming.

A Place Called Home is not a conservatory as we have a multitude of programs and we are a community based organization, but our members are prepared to enter higher music education whether in high school or college.

In addition, The Music Program Assistant Manager will work with the Senior Manager to prepare our APCH band 29 Live for community performances, fundraising events, and ambassadorship opportunities, while collaborating with other APCH programs within the Arts and Creative Expressions department, and the agency as a whole.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Sr.

Music Program Manager, the Music Program Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting general department administration, curriculum development.

The Music Program Assistant Manager implements programs, REACH objectives, the agency’s best practices, and program efficiencies.

The Music Program Assistant Manager provides key support in programming application and policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide administrative support to the Music program including but not limited to semester schedules, staff, Independent Contractors and instructor assignments, coordinating student assessments, budgets and expenses, attendance reports, correspondence and other student performance administration.
Agency-wide duties including youth supervision when onsite, on agency related events, inputting class attendance and participation in agency events when required.

Coordination of independent contractor paperwork and invoicing.
Provide instruction and serve as substitute instructor when needed.
Work closely with the Senior Music Program Manager in the recruitment, retention, supervision and coordination of students for Berklee City Music Program and the APCH Accelerated Music Program
Direct the APCH member ensembles as needed For the Accelerated Music Programs (AMP)
Represent the APCH Music Program and the Berklee City Music program at off-campus events, performances and conferences as required.
Support logistics and coordination for music program performances and events on and off-campus including student participation.
Support Music related needs of the agency’s programs.
Support the audio related needs of the agency’s programs.
Oversee support staff and volunteers for special events and serve as primary chaperone as necessary, including Virtual Workshops/Classes
Compose and prepare regular and special reports as required.
Maintain the database of student records and private instructors.
Assist the Senior Music Program Manager in the placement of AMP student enrollment in ongoing basis semester classes
Assist in preparing stage plots, input lists and any other needed information and or documentation for performances.
Communicate with performers and technical crews regarding rehearsals and production schedules and logistics.
Monitor student progress and maintain communication with parents regarding class performance, GPA, and attendance.
Provide work direction and guidance to contractors, volunteers, interns and support staff as assigned.
Responsible for equipment and supplies acquisition, classroom access, safety and equipment set-up, and scheduling instrument maintenance.
Assist contractors and staff in classroom management.
Assist the Senior Music Program Manager in semester evaluations and surveys.

Assist in the development and management of daily and accelerated music classes.

Work closely with the Senior Music Program Manager to maintain weekly, monthly and quarterly calendar of music activities, including virtual programming.
Submit appropriate paperwork and reports in a timely and efficient manner.

Oversee weekend programming.
Drive APCH vehicles when needed to transport equipment or students for performances.

Oversee all communication with the Membership department regarding enrollment.
