Fall Intern: Critical Threats Project – Management and Operations

Overview: The Critical Threats Project (CTP), led by Senior Fellow Frederick W.

Kagan, tracks and analyzes current and emerging threats to American national security.

The intern will fulfill operations projects and tasks under CTP’s Program Manager, gaining skills transferrable to many professions.

The intern will curate content on our website (www.criticalthreats.org) and review website and social media work.

Social media work will include researching and implementing new creative strategies to increase social media engagement, monitoring and reporting on the success of social media initiatives, and identifying trends to maximize impact.

The intern will also monitor current developments in areas relevant to CTP and may produce weekly briefings about major events, with a particular focus on how mainstream media frames those events.

The intern will also further develop the team’s knowledge management by creating and refining procedures documents.

The intern will work on additional special projects as required.

The intern will gain exposure to a range of foreign-policy issues while developing their communication, public speaking, writing, and advanced computer skills (including Excel and basic HTML).

Interested candidates should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, logic skills, and attention to detail.

Successful candidates will have an eye toward continuous improvement and enjoy coordinating many moving parts.

There is a 15 to 20–hour minimum requirement for this position.

Hours must fall within normal business hours Monday–Friday.

The program will run for a minimum of 10 weeks, although most interns’ end dates fall around mid-December.

Intern Scholarship ProgramIn the fall of 2022, AEI will offer up to 12 intern candidates a $1,000 monthly living stipend as part of a need-based scholarship program.

Our hope is to allow students to reap the academic, professional, and personal benefits of interning at AEI with the added support of financial assistance.

About AEI InternshipsAEI internships offer a unique opportunity for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain experience in research, writing, business, and communications at one of the nation’s leading think tanks.

Competitive candidates will generally possess a 3.4 GPA or higher from a top-ranking college or university.

AEI internships last a minimum of 10 weeks, and interns are required to work 20–40 hours per week.
