Job Description

The branch Director of Development is responsible for the strategic management of all branch fundraising activities. In partnership with the branch Executive Director, the Director of Development’s responsibilities include the settings of annual and multi-year goals, the development and implementation of plans to achieve those goals, and the daily driving of the process that will direct staff, branch executive, and volunteer leaders to activities that contribute to fundraising success. Additionally, the Director of Development works with the Association’s Communications Department in providing oversight for these elements of the communications plan that directly impacts donors, with particular emphasis on donors in the major and planned gift levels.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field
  • Experience working directly with Boards of Directors and Development Committees preferred
  • Public speaking and grant writing experience
  • Experience in a variety of fundraising or sales methods (i.e. annual campaign, grants, major donor, corporate, special events, planned giving)
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills as well as ability to work with and motivate other development professionals and volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and to work nights and weekends, as required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including three years of major gift ($25,000 and above) fundraising experience.
  • Ability to work cooperatively to achieve common goals; support cooperation, collaboration and the sharing of information while providing the best quality product available and continuously upgrade standards to maintain quality, in all areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to provide direction and motivation to others through communication, modeling appropriate behavior, optimism and high achievement.
  • Understanding of database management, gift processing and donor relations.
  • Openness to new ideas and their implementation.
  • Ability to react and adapt to changing situations appropriately.
  • Ability to listen carefully to and understand client and donor needs, both internally and externally, and proactively respond to those needs in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated analytical and fund raising skills with the ability to recognize opportunities, identify critical, high pay-off activities and prioritize them to attain goals.
  • Understanding of planned giving concepts.
  • Demonstrated senior leadership with strategic, policy, and budget planning experience in complex organizations.
Essential Functions

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fund raising plan to advance the development program, with elements that include donor cultivation and stewardship at annual and multi-year levels.
  • Establish a strategic plan for all major gift prospects.
  • Involve branch Executive Director and volunteer leadership in the development and execution of each plan.
  • Research identified prospects to ensure effective cultivation and solicitation, utilizing our Association’s researcher in this endeavor.
  • Provide leadership and identify prospects for planned gifts, continuing the growth of revenue and participation in the President’s Club.
  • Provide leadership and support to branch capital fundraising efforts, incorporating goals and strategies into annual and multi-year plans where appropriate.
  • Provide leadership to ensure continual growth of the Chairman’s Roundtable at all levels.
  • Maintain current and accurate files for all prospects.
  • Successfully meet all annual fundraising benchmarks laid out in the Strategic Plan and the branch five year plan.
  • Establish and achieve monthly contact goals; ensure same for branch Executive Director.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to any and all special fundraising events, manage any staff and contracted services.
  • Upon successful gift, fulfill institutional donor reporting requirements and coordinate with branch or Association staff for timely donor recognition.
  • Assist in the supervision of office staff responsible for fundraising administration.
  • Participate as an active member of appropriate Association meetings, events and clusters.
  • Organize time and resources to ensure well-prepared meetings. Meeting content will focus on donor cultivation, solicitation and deeper volunteer involvement.
  • Develop a strong presence in the community through effective networking, planning and execution of communications programs.
  • Assist in the implementation and augmenting of branch communications appropriate to donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Act as and supports branch Executive Director as an ambassador to these projects, giving skilled presentations to various community groups, including identifying as well as executing these opportunities.
  • Assist in the development and marketing of these programs in the community.
