Consider the opportunity to lead our work on brand architecture and naming for the commercial business at Microsoft.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the naming process, name development and portfolio management across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Viva, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Security, and more.

As part of our brand strategy team, you’ll work to bring clarity and excitement to our offerings by developing the right names while managing and steering the growing brand architecture in the fastest growing portion of the Microsoft portfolio.

The Director of Naming is a role that requires just the right mix of left brain, analytical thinking to ensure clarity and patterns make sense with right brain, creative spark to use words to their greatest effect, all in a global context.

You’ll be in close partnership with the entire brand strategy discipline across the company, our agency partners, product marketing managers, engineering teams, and senior executives.

Responsibilities

In this role, responsibilities will include:

• Own the naming process across the commercial business

• Steer the strategic choices around our growing commercial portfolio, and our brand architecture within the context of the larger Microsoft ecosystem

• Deliver exceptionally creative and powerful names at all levels of our portfolio Ideal candidates will have significant naming and brand architecture experience, with additional experience in brand building, and brand strategy.

Your job will be to help us create clarity for wayfinding and functional understanding of our technology through naming while building emotional connections with customers through the meaningful brand stories we’re building.

Qualifications

A mixture of these qualifications are required:

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization

• Fluency in turning product strategy and business objectives into clear brand and naming strategy

• Proven ability to think strategically and creatively, while maintaining great attention to detail

• Ability to create inspiring and clearly appropriate names, depending on the need

• Strategic mindset including interpreting data to inform strategy and execution

• Proven experience organizing and driving large scale, naming and brand architecture projects

 

Strong candidates will have 8+ years of relevant experience in some or all roles including branding, naming, and brand strategy.

Experience within world class branding agencies or similar environments is a plus.
