Director, Internal Audit

The Director of Internal Audit is responsible for leading the overall internal audit function of the Company.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, directing, and executing the annual internal audit plan.

The internal audit plan includes multiple SOX programs, SOC1 programs, and other annually planned and approved financial, operational and compliance audits.

The Director of Internal Audit also serves as a liaison of the Company’s external auditors, and functions as a subject-matter expert on a consultative basis in matters related to audits and internal controls over financial, operational and compliance reporting processes.

The position reports to the Managing Director, Operations and functionally to the Audit Committees for the Company’s publicly listed and/or traded vehicles.

Duties and Responsibilities Direct and manage the internal audit department effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities include preparing risk-based annual internal audit plan to be reviewed and approved by MD, Operations annually.

Planning includes preparing an IA budget that is optimal for the successful execution of the internal audit plan.

Successfully manage and execute the internal audit plan in a disciplined and effective approach in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors’ definition of the internal auditing activity and the International Professional Practices Framework (IIA IPPF).

The internal audit plan comprises of SOX programs (50%), SOC 1-Type II programs (5%), Operational audits (20%) and consulting reviews (5-10%).

The internal audit activities include both recurring and new engagements.

Work to enhance and improve the internal audit function and activities by initiating, creating, and maintaining a scalable improvement program that enhances and grows the internal audit department to align with the Company’s growth and aspirations, as necessary.

Initiatives may include drafting and maintain of Internal Audit policy and procedures, establish accountability in the use of audit resources, maintain a quality self
– assessment based on the IPPF, work to solicit auditees’ feedback after each audit, etc.

Effectively work with various department owners in addressing, prioritizing, and remediating any audit findings.

Effectively report to the MD, Operations on audit activities, and audit findings on a quarterly basis, or more frequently as needed.

Reporting function includes presentation of audit status and results with other audit program sponsors or administrative reports as required.

This includes the CFOs, CCO, and Audit Committee chairs of our publicly registered vehicles.

Professional Experience Requirements At least 5-6 years of big 4 public accounting experience desirable.

A minimum of 10-12 years of experience in auditing assignments with either a public accounting firm and/or internal audit function.

Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience as an Audit Manager, or higher overseeing audit projects and supervising staffs engaged in audit assignments.

Minimum of 5-8 years of experience with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX); experience in private equity in real estate investments or similar industry preferred.

· Experience and involvement with SOC1 – Type II, and other SOC reviews / audits.

Experience with IT General Controls audit domains and procedures desirable.

Experience with performing Enterprise Risk Management assessment desirable.

Experience with fraud risk assessment desirable.

Experience with performing Segregation of Duties assessment desirable.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including advance level experience with Excel.

Experience with the use of audit tools and some proficiency with data analytics tools a plus (e.g.

AuditBoard, Teammate, ACL, etc.) Experience with leading ERP systems and applications; experience with Yardi, Nexus, or AVID a plus.
