Director

About Equatic Equatic (previously known as Seachange) addresses one of mankind’s most pressing problems, climate change, by removing CO 2 from the atmosphere. Equatic’s founders developed an electrochemical process that traps CO 2 in the form of mineral solids (e.g., chalk powder: CaCO 3 ), and bicarbonate ions (HCO 3 – ) that are dissolved in seawater. This allows the oceans to re-absorb additional CO 2 from the atmosphere, thereby reducing its CO 2 content. Beyond CO 2 removal, the Equatic process also produces hydrogen, a clean fuel as a co-product. This enables two key pillars of the energy transition: carbon removal, and the production of zero-carbon fuels. Equatic sells carbon credits (“negative CO 2 emissions”) and hydrogen to governments, corporations, and some cases, even individuals. To achieve this, we are further developing our pioneering technology and design, construct and operate industrially relevant (size, scale, and affordable cost) CO 2 removal plants around the world. About the role The Director Technical Projects (DTP) will collaborate closely with Equatic’s leadership team, in particular the CEO, the Head of Technology and Head of Engineering, to develop the equipment and integrated plant designs for seawater mediated carbon removal. The DTP will lead the development and construction of the next generation plants, including translating strategy into technical specifications, and coordinating/steering external vendors. The DTP will also coordinate with the business team to ensure that processes and technology is being set up to measure and verify the abatement of CO2. Equatic has an opportunity to lead the industry in removing carbon from atmosphere, a unique process that is the most scalable and really make a difference in climate change. As the company’s first Director of Technical Projects, you will be contributing to the solution for this fundamental problem for humanity. Role description Develop and lead the plant design department of Equatic, including leading the internal team and steering vendors and partners Project leadership for ongoing plant projects across all phases: conceptual design, detailed engineering, construction Design innovative process equipment for manufacturability, balance function/features and cost containment, iterate designs based on manufacturability/cost Translation of business requirements into technical specifications, development and documentation, budget management, quality assurance, internal and external team management, IP management, EHS Develop internal processes for engineering, development, and results documentation Independently identify and effectively communicate barriers and bottlenecks Integration of plant design with measurement, reporting, verification (MRV) efforts and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Define technical requirements and implement in the ongoing projects Motivate, develop, coach, lead our engineering employees Requirements & qualifications MSc or PhD in (Electro-)chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or similar At least 10 years of relevant professional experience, of which at least 2 years are in leadership roles Familiar with current standards and directives in chemical and plant engineering. Proven experience in SHE and Hazops Proven expertise in manufacturing of engineered process equipment and deployment Proven success in delivering/ supporting Capex projects >10m$ in size Demonstrated ability of taking ownership, being driven and result oriented, holding yourself and others accountable for success. Excellent communication skills, forthcoming in interpersonal relationships Demonstrated history of being a team builder and player, that has strong communication skills and works seamlessly across organizations. Highly structured thinking including the ability to define overarching development plans and to track plan execution among different team members and internal/ external research partners Familiarity with electrochemical devices, such as electrolyzers or flow cells Passionateabout carbon management solutions
