Development Manager – Studios

As the Development Manager for Madison Wells Studios, this person will serve as a junior executive reporting to the Head of Television and Film.

The Development Manager will provide support on all aspects of project development including crafting and compiling notes on creative materials, as well as giving feedback on other creative aspects of development including writing and casting talent.

The Development Manager is also responsible for shepherding the creative direction of the project from bible to visual development through to pitch and sale of series, as well as being the “keeper” of information for the projects in development, ensuring meetings are prepped, and materials are distributed.

The ideal candidate brings established relationships in the creative community and enjoys being an effective relationship builder.

The Responsibilities * Strong ability to building and maintain relationships in the creative community, including talent (writers, producers, directors, actors, authors, filmmakers, playwrights), managers, agents etc.* Forge relationships with managers, agents and all levels of talent (from script coordinator to executive producers and writers), which would include taking general meetings.* Field pitches and book submissions to identify potential new series for development.* Read writing submissions to identify and recommend talent for development and/or series staffing.* Provide and compile notes on all written and visual development materials such as bibles, scripts, character and background art, etc.* Generate and maintain new show ideas/concepts/materials and fielding pitches from outside producers.* Discover and work with emerging and existing writers, producers and talent* Research new topics and ideas* Knowledgeable and understands the buyer landscape and buyer relationships* Keep up to date on what is going on in television/film/entertainment industry.H* Track submissions, scripts and pitches within internal tracking system* Responsible for preparing and maintaining development project status reports* Attend and participate in creative meetings.* Maintaining standards of strict confidentiality with respect to all matters and documents The Essentials * Bachelor’s degree and/or applicable industry experience in lieu of degree* Minimum of 5+ years of experience in TV or Film field, preferably TV* Strong people skills, including the ability to work effectively with other executives, talent, talent reps, assistants and staff at all levels* Team player with positive/easy-going manner to handle varied personalities, responsibilities and assignments* Knowledge of development and writer relationships* Experience with writing entertainment treatments/scripts/outlines/concept documents required* Experience providing notes on scripts required* Comfortable dealing with high level executives and talent, in a professional and confidential manner* A clear sense of urgency, and ability to complete tasks accurately and efficiently* Excellent computer and technology skills – Mac & Windows: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint* Excellent communication skills
