Cedars-Sinai Medical Center seeks an innovative Director for the institutional Biobank and Translational Research Core (BTRC) Laboratory.
The goal is for the leader to continue to build the laboratory into a cutting-edge program supporting the academic mission of the institution.
The Director will report directly to the Vice Dean for Research and Graduate education.
The Director will be responsible for the daily BTRC operations and supervising laboratory staff to ensure high quality, cost-efficient, and timely services are delivered to client CSMC investigators.
The Director will participate in the academic and administrative activities that support the basic and translational research mission of the institutional core laboratory.
The Director will have primary appointment in the appropriate academic Departments well as an appointment in Cedars-Sinai Cancer with full-time effort committed to management of the Biobank and Translational Research Core (BTRC) staff and services.
BIOBANK AND TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH CORE LABORATORY:
The Biobank and Translational Research Core (BTRC) Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) has two operationally distinct subdivisions: (i) Biobanking and Biorepository and (ii) Histology and Molecular Pathology.
The Histology and Molecular Pathology divisions provide research histology services and access to digital spatial profiling technology.
The Biobank and Biorepository supports the research mission at CSMC to advance clinical-translational and healthcare disparities research.
It is integrated with the other divisions of the BTRC to provide continuity with the many downstream tools and technologies commonly used to analyze them.
Approximately 13,600 biospecimens donated by generous patients are collected, processed, annotated and stored each year by Biobank staff using policies and procedures that ensure their high-quality and versatility, while protecting individual patient privacy.
Biospecimens are obtained from patients with a wide variety of conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease and inflammatory conditions.
Robust custom collection and processing protocols are used for many different biospecimen types.
The Cedars-Sinai Biobank aspires to become a preeminent center of excellence in Biobanking and an essential partner in developing personalized health care for the patient population at CSMC, affiliated institutions and external healthcare partners.
Qualified candidates may be current biobank directors or faculty members with responsibility for a biobank.
A minimum of five years of experience is preferred.
A PhD in a related field will determine faculty status.
