A successful Commercial Concrete Superintendent will be experienced in construction safety, estimates, effective communication, and supervising foremen.
A Superintendents duties include but are not limited to the ability to: Read, assess, question, and understand construction plans and specifications for projects and be able to execute as designed Quickly make decisions and communicate effectively in fast-paced environment Be highly organized and able to schedule and coordinate all facets of the field operations Understand, evaluate, and leverage data as a tool, reference, and guidance for managing foremen, through the difference between estimated performance and actual performance Perform material take-offs and order all necessary supplies and labor Conduct weekly safety meetings for all crews Address any issues the crews have for daily jobs Review and critically analyze performance with the estimate on the daily job tickets from the previous days work Analyze, change, and input information for labor and material on the daily job ticket for the following days work Review, analyze, and determine the problems or successes that are driving the production performance of crews, including annual, monthly, and weekly trends and recurring issues Work with the Equipment Logistics team to ensure that the current and next days scheduled work will provide a smooth hand-offs and on-time delivery of heavy equipment and/or material Visit the job site prior to starting work to ensure it is ready for our mobilization Manage the job site(s) where crews are working on the current day to inspect quality, production, and performance Document through e-mail and photos the findings at every visit, good or bad, and discuss with client jobsite superintendent as well as the A2 Operations Manager & Project Manager Handle any issues or problems from foremen, subcontractors, or general contractors Train foremen and crew members on proper installation techniques, safety procedures, and the importance of continuous improvement Attend pre-construction and weekly safety meetings scheduled by general contractor.
A Superintendents primary role is the field and on-site management.
Additionally, the role may include working alongside other colleagues in the office for some portion of a day.
The Superintendents primary function is the execution, training, directing, re-directing, and supervision of the foremen and the crew, including but not limited to their performance, efficiency, and safety.
A Superintendent is the supervisor in the company closest to the crew he/she supervises, and therefore it is up to the Superintendent to make the primary determination on hiring or firing such foremen.
A Superintendent must be willing to work occasional weekends and travel to non-local job sites.
A Superintendent must also be willing to perform any and all other duties assigned by his/her supervisor.
Essential Functions In order to train, direct, re-direct, and supervise the foremen, a Superintendent must be to: Climb, crawl, and walk while carrying or operating machinery and tools up stairs, down stairs, and over potentially uneven surfaces.
Lift, pull, push, and carry 80 lbs.
of weight intermittently.
Access punctual transportation to and away from scheduled job locations, mostly local but occasionally long-distance.
Ability to identify safety hazards and communicate effectively with others.
Sustain the stamina to perform manual labor outdoors, exposed to the elements, vibrations, loud noises, offensive smells, dust, dirt, and water in all seasons, including extreme temperatures.
Safely perform work on balconies and other elevated areas with appropriate safety gear.
Bend, squat, twist, and reach in various positions as the situation dictates.
A Superintendent should not have clean work boots.
Qualifications Eligibility to work in the United States Drivers license and favorable DMV record Have the skills and expertise needed to perform EVERY function of the employees he/she supervises.
