COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
California State University, Los Angeles, invites applications for the above Administrator I position.

The Position: Reporting to the Senior Executive Director for University Advancement, the Communications Manager will serve as project manager, editor, and/or principal writer for a wide variety of print and electronic communications projects, including promotional materials and a diverse array of fundraising pieces. Types of projects include brochures and flyers, direct mail pieces, invitations, event scripts, web site content, online giving, online event registration, email communications, and coordination of use of social media. Oversight of the Advancement web pages will include project management, collaboration with the design team, development of page content, and regular updates of the pages. The Communications Manager will provide support to the Division of University Advancement in the production of communication materials as a member of a team of Advancement professionals. The incumbent will collaborate with other members of the team to create written materials for internal and external audiences. This position is part of the team that produces University Commencement annually.
Required Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Two years of experience in business or technical writing, communications, media relations, or related field. Experience with electronic communications including web technologies, design, content management and social media. Demonstrated knowledge of standard concepts and practices related to the position. Knowledge of when and how to use various channels of communication. Expertise in use of English grammar, punctuation, and syntax. Understanding of branding and positioning strategies. Must possess integrity, strong work ethic, and positive attitude. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Must have strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Ability to: learn subject-specific terminology when developing written materials; develop and produce editorial content for web sites; work both collaboratively and independently; manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines; organize information for effective presentation in publications, web sites, and other media platforms; interact effectively with various external and internal constituents; and maintain confidentiality at all times. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university. Experience in higher education environment. Drupal content management experience. Donor database management knowledge (Raiser’s Edge a plus). Adobe Creative Suite competency.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $3,750 – $11,146/monthly. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
Appointment: The Administrator I appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
