The Business Development Manager II – New Business is responsible for leading the New Business Team members located across California. The BD Manger II will be focused on executing the team’s mission: To help our partners win business by acting as strategic advisors and aiding them in communicating our firm’s value proposition and key differentiators and to foster a work environment that brings out the best in our team, to be collaborative with our partners and peers, and to challenge our team to reach higher.

As a member of the Global Leadership Team and in close collaboration with the Business Development Senior Manager, the BD Manager II will develop and deliver firm communications and presentations to share pitch metrics and trends. The successful candidate will deploy their leadership and project management skills to oversee a team dedicated to leading all proposal documents from receipt of work request to follow-up, tracking, and metrics. The BD Manager will have excellent leadership skills (i.e. planning, problem solving, and decision making) necessary for effective management and have strong written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate will be a high-performing team player, fluent in a matrix environment with a strong ability to positively and proactively influence others, including multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the New Business Team members located across California and being responsible for the day-to-day workflow, training, and performance management feedback of the team.
  • Developing and delivering high-quality proposal documents, such as credentials statements, pitch documents, and responses to RFPs.
  • Driving strategic new business priorities through a comprehensive understanding of the lawyers, clients in the market, and new business team metrics.
  • Helping partners prepare for client meetings, including developing scripts, talking points, and additional supporting pitch documents. Providing one-on-one partner coaching as needed.
  • Developing a deep understanding of the competitive landscape to contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of the goals and objectives of the firm.
  • Coordinating with global BD resources to maintain and update standard materials such as templates, content, and experience within the firm’s proposal management system and databases.
  • Ensuring that best practices in the preparation of proposal documents are maintained and shared across departments.
  • Coordinating and delivering training to new business team to ensures team skills are maintained at a superior level.
  • Maintaining an active professional network to hire and recruit top talent.
