Job Summary:
The Community Engagement (CE) Associate Director is responsible for engaging Community Partners and collaborating with institute and university partners through a variety of engagement events and initiatives.
The CE Associate Director reports to the CE Program Director and works closely with the CE and CTSI staff and faculty, and collaborates with various partners at USC and CHLA.
The CE Associate Director is responsible for developing programs and partnerships to support community engaged research, and ensuring metrics are collected, evaluated and disseminated.
The SC CTSI serves the greater SoCal communities and partners including schools, local government groups, medical providers, faith organizations, business owners, and other community health stakeholders.
The position will also contribute to local and national dissemination and publication materials such as data and impact reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, toolkits and training materials.
The engagement of community partners and constituent events and programs is vital to the success of CE.
The job requires regular evening and weekend work and may include occasional travel.
The position offers an exciting leadership opportunity for individuals experienced in program management and dedication to supporting research projects that respond to needs from local communities.
The Associate Director of CE must be passionate about community health and research, innovative, independent, able to plan, develop, implement and evaluate CE programs.
Additionally, this person must have experience managing staff and multiple community programs and projects that support diverse groups.
Key Responsibilities :
Community Engagement & Partnerships Development
In collaboration with CTSI and CE leaders and team, plan and develop CE program objectives and activities.
Research and identify health priorities and disparities in LA communities and develop opportunities where CTSI can make an impact accordingly
Develop and implement a comprehensive partnership strategy.
Establish and maintain an active network of community partners and contacts.
Identify opportunities for CE education and training activities.
Work with CTSI Education Resource Center to develop materials and curriculum
Provide CE consultative services to health researchers at USC and CHLA upon request
Oversee community events to support CE’s projects.
Engage CE and CTSI team members as needed.
Collaborate with other CTSI teams activities involving community engagement
Program Management, Evaluation and Dissemination
Manage the delivery of services to targeted program participants and communities.
Bring together participants, contributors, and stakeholders to ensure full participationand meet program objectives.
Defines organize and manage all major CE projects and initiatives.
Serves as the primary resource for project information.
Develops effective oral presentations for large audiences.
Oversee collection and analysis of program data.
Work with CTSI Evaluation and Improvement team to assess impact.
Modify existing services or create new program when needed.
Work with CTSI Communication team to set communication priorities and dissemination of program materials, progress and impact.
Oversee marketing and promotional strategies including local and CTSA national networks, publications, newsletters and related communications materials, and events planning.
Write papers for publication.
Represent CE and participate in CTSI, USC, CHLA and CTSA meetings.
Work with CE team to develop program operating and administrative policies.
Budget Management and Growth
In collaboration with CTSI Admin, develop and manage CE funds and make budgetary and resource allocation decisions.
Provide financial status reports as needed.
Identify grant funding and fundraising opportunities.
Develop grant proposals to support CE work from private and public sources.
Seek and engage collaborators from USC, CHLA and CTSA network when possible.
Staff Management
Directly or indirectly manage all CE program staff, through subordinate managers or supervisors.
Propose short and long-range staffing needs based on program goals.
Review and approve hiring and salary actions to ensure compliance with CTSI and USC policies.
Work with CE managers to develop standard staffing procedures and policies
Oversee performance appraisal process for program staff and remain informed of any disciplinary actions requiredIdentify training skill gaps and recommend solutions for staff development.
Actively facilitate staff training and development (e.g.
community outreach, networking, public speaking, safety in the field, etc) as applicable.
Other Responsibilities:
Stays informed of developments in field.
Reads pertinent literature, attends meetings and participates in professional associations as appropriate.
Actively participate in professional development.
Related skills include: proposal and publication writing, project management, communication, budgeting, marketing and promotion, and event planning.
