Associate Category Manager

Role Summary

We are looking for an Associate Category Manager that will assist in the ownership of the development and management of the clients assortment portfolio. This is a mid-level role that reports to the Category Manager and is dedicated to supporting a fast-growing E-commerce client directly. The ideal candidate has knowledge of customer-centric retailing principles and the analytics of customer purchase behavior as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.

Key Results Area

  • Plans, develops, and recommends sales, gross profit level, inventory control, and merchandise turnover objectives for the assigned department(s) and item(s)

  • Negotiates buying contracts on categories or subsets of categories as determined by the Category Manager

  • Reviews and analyzes historical and YTD category performance data, recommends performance goals for categories, and manages category performance as assigned by the Category Manager

  • Develops and recommends merchandising, display, advertising, distribution, packaging, and sales plans and programs for assigned items and merchandise department

  • Utilizes data to make recommendations to Category Lead on promotional programs, merchandising assortment, forecasts, and other key category initiatives; takes the initiative to elicit insights from data and recommend programs to category and engagement leadership

  • Works with the Category Manager and leadership to project sales forecasts and gross profit levels within the assigned categories

    Skills and Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years’ experience in two or more of the following: retail, procurement/purchasing, merchandising, vendor relations, pharmacy operations, or retail marketing OR a high school diploma/GED and at least 4 years’ experience in two or more of the following: retail, procurement/purchasing, merchandising, vendor relations, pharmacy operations, or retail marketing

  • 2+ years of experience developing programs in merchandising, vendor relations, and marketing in the retail business

  • 1+ year of cross-functional team leadership preferred

  • Experience working with P&L concepts revenues, cogs, gross profit margin, operating expenses, and income

  • Intermediate to advanced experience in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Willing to travel up to 25% of the time for business purposes
