Departmental Overview The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).We are currently seeking an Assistant Director, Performance Nutrition.Responsibilities The Assistant Director of Performance Nutrition will work as an integral part of the Cal Performance Nutrition department to provide nutrition programming, education, and counseling to Cal’s diverse student-athlete population.
This position will work as a part of an interdisciplinary team to manage high-risk athletes and coordinate higher levels of care as needed.
This position will also be responsible for adhering to university, NCAA, and PAC-12 policies, protocols, rules and regulations.
Develop, execute, and evaluate nutrition education programming including team talks, grocery store tours, cooking classes, and educational handouts to support optimal health and performance Lead the management of nutritionally high-risk athletes with eating disorders/disordered eating; coordinate as appropriate with physicians, mental health providers, and other members of ED management teams Manage nutrition-related needs of assigned sports including supplementation, performance nutrition coaching, menu review, body composition testing, etc.
Communicate and collaborate with multiple disciplines including Athletic Trainers, Physicians, Athletic Performance coaches, team coaches, foodservice staff, and support staff Assist with fueling station operations through the creation of educational content for social media, product ordering and supporting student athlete engagement Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field Registered Dietitian; completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics Ability to work a nonstandard work week which includes nights, weekends, and holidays Possess strong communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills Ability to handle a fast-paced, intense work environment Sports nutrition experience, ideally collegiate Experience working with high-risk clinical populations Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion, handling sensitive matters involving patients Ability to work with and in a diverse environment Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree and/or equivalent years experience/training.
