ABL and Consumer Brands, Director Of Underwriting

Summary

The Director of Underwriting is a voting member of the Assembled Brands Credit Committee responsible for reviewing and structuring new business opportunities. As the lead Underwriter you will oversee the entire credit onboarding process, from initial due diligence to structuring and legal negotiation. You will work directly with founders, CFOs, CEOs, and investors as well as internal stakeholders to close new transactions and grow the portfolio. 

A strong Underwriter will have a passion for the consumer goods sector, an entrepreneurial mindset, the ability to think outside of the box, and the willingness to roll up their sleeves.

Roles & Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the structuring, underwriting, and closing of new loan facilities
  • Responsible for the process end to end including engaging with the Origination team, prospects, legal partners, industry partners, and other internal / external stakeholders
  • Put together investment packages and present opportunities to the Credit Committee on a weekly basis
  • Negotiate legal documents and structure facilities with legal partners
  • Prepare high quality, detailed credit approval documents that contain an in-depth analysis and an understanding and identification of credit issues and risks
  • Identify opportunities to utilize data to make more informed credit decisions
  • Assess the borrower’s and guarantor’s financial statements, including analysis andinterpretation of financial statements and tax returns
  • Prepare written analysis of loan applicants, including financial analysis and analyticalnarratives  
  • Find solutions to core credit issues and risks discovered during due diligence and use sound risk management practices to assist in structuring loan terms  
  • Work with the Business Investments team in strategizing and designing new loanproducts and lending programs 
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 5+ years of credit or related underwriting experience
  • Advanced knowledge of ABL underwriting practices including expertise in evaluating risk and weighing return opportunities
  • Strong structuring and negotiation skills, closing skills and ability to build rapport with clients and other service providers
  • Demonstrated ability to understand collateral segments and valuation methodologies
  • Bachelor’s degree required, formal credit training preferred
