Technical Sales Engineer – Greater Los Angeles

Come join our Team Position Summary This position is responsible for selling and establishing KSPT products at the end-user level via select distribution using technical, organizational, and customer knowledge to influence customers and assist them in applying the products/services to their needs resulting in revenue generation in a specified region or major geographical area. The position provides input and participates in the marketing, market planning, and technical development of products and services. Essential Job Functions Sell through industrial distribution and to OEM customers to gain the largest profitable market share by increasing sales 6% annually. Make sales contacts, research customer needs, and influence customers in an effective manner by researching, and develop future customers by determining market strategies & goals for each product. Evaluate product marketability in terms of distributors’ customers’ technical & manufacturing needs. Provide training to distributors on tool application, benefits, features and use with support from manufacturer’s representatives. Provide solutions on tool applications and technical use. Follow up on sales leads, maintain up-to-date understanding of industry trends and technical developments that effect target markets. Communicate trends supporting marketing initiatives. Make and document regular sales calls to develop relationships and follow up on leads establishing long-term, ongoing repeat relationships to meet established sales quotas and revenue goals. Complete required trip reports, expense reports and other required documentation as directed and communicated by the VP of North American Sales. Participate in sales forecasting and planning in an effective manner by providing data, customer feedback and maintaining long and short range sales plans to the VP of North American Sales. Maintain an up-to-date awareness of strategic plans and procedures by consulting with the marketing department & communicating monthly sales data to contribute to marketing’s product/service planning. Participate with marketing in modification of existing products, termination of ineffective products, and assist in identifying future customer needs. Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of newly developing technologies and manufacturing practices. Develop and maintain communications in a cooperative and professional manner with all levels of staff, distributors and customers. Ensure adherence to the KSPT ISO 9001:2000 program in those areas under management. Domestic travel in specified territory is required. Marginal / Less Essential Job Functions Report market trends in applications of cutting tools to the VP of North American Sales. Assist in new product development as needed. Attend assigned industry trade shows as a technical advisor. Assist the VP of North American Sales in budget planning, distribution selection, and forecasting Provide feedback on all sales and marketing objectives with A-D and catalog distributors to marketing and the VP of North American Sales. Educational Requirements Bachelor’s degree in sales, marketing, engineering with sales concentration or a related technical field, and five years’ field experience, or equivalent experience and education. Other Qualifications Desired Training & Experience Two or more years of technical knowledge of tooling application within industrial, automotive, aerospace, maritime or special application. Two or more years of experience as a Technical Sales Engineer or Technical Support in the cutting tool or machining industry is preferred. Completion of KSPT Sales Engineer Training Program within the specified time as indicated on the training plan. Complete understanding of manufacturing processes for carbide round tool manufacturing upon the completion of the training plan. Previous experience assisting customers on problem analysis and resolution. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range interaction of internal associates and external customers and in a diverse atmosphere. Excellent time management and planning skills. Basic knowledge with PC, Microsoft applications and handheld communication devices. Understand ISO requirements. Possess broad conceptual judgment, initiative, and the ability to deal with complex customer issues. Travel required up to 70% of the calendar year. Visual Acuity: Must be able to visually assess tooling samples under varying magnification, inspect finished tool and other visual parameters with or without accommodation. Hearing Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify correct grinding conditions with or without reasonable accommodation. Working Conditions: Normal office environment utilizing personal computer, phone and related office equipment. Regularly required to walk, sit or stand. Constant use of upper extremities. Infrequent lifting up to 50 lbs. Frequent visits to various manufacturing facilities with exposure to hazards of automated machinery, noise, dust, oils, moving equipment, etc. Extensive travel is required.
