Position
The Business Development Sales Representative will implement, coordinate and manage cost-effective fundraising activities to assist the Chamber in attaining its financial goals. This position acts as liaison between the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, its members and investors, and the local community and is a position based upon achieving aggressive annual revenue goals.
The Business Development Sales Representative reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with the VP of Membership and the Director of Strategic Partnerships & Events to identify and drive new partnership investment opportunities (membership, sponsorship, strategic partnership) across the Chamber?s programs and all Signature Events.
The position also works with leadership committees, Chamber staff, Strategic Partners, volunteers and community leaders to assist in meeting the financial goals.
The Development Sales Representative assists/develops/maintains relationships with business leaders in the Region and with Corporate HQs outside of the Los Angeles region.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Revenue Generation: Achieve revenue through fundraising initiatives (Membership, packages, sponsorships) utilizing organizational best practices, achieve specific revenue budget, manage the timeline & logistics for sponsorship solicitation.
- Utilize Sales Process &Techniques: prospect, follow-up, sell memberships, partnerships, achieve sales quota. Assess prospective member needs & priorities to make appropriate connections to Chamber programs & benefits.
- Achievement of Sales Goals: Consistently meet monthly sales activity & production minimums. Leverage upselling of investor tiers, membership upgrades, & sponsorships to drive new revenue/deeper member engagement.
- Relationship Building: Develop strong networks within the community, corporations, etc. Identify target audiences, build appropriate recruitment & fundraising strategies to successfully recruit, acknowledge, and retain & upgrade event donors/sponsors/teams/participants. Develop a pipeline through relationships, networking, sales calls or other prospecting efforts.
- Assess & Plan: Monitor & evaluate the effectiveness of the on-going fundraising initiatives; fundraising efficiency (cost/expense), community engagement, event potential, & overall success of the event. Develop and implement strategies to enhance growth potential.
- Organizational Effectiveness: Proficiency in systems that track & manage revenue generating activities, volunteer leadership, and internal systems of the Chamber. Prepare/maintain accurate records/data to evaluate cost-effectiveness, profitability, and public awareness of events and activities. Monitor income/expense budgets, compilation/analysis of event statistics, research & analyze community fundraising potential versus actual revenues, etc.
- Strategic Partnerships & Event Marketing: Collaborate closely w/Strategic Partnership & MarComm teams to oversee partnerships and local marketing/communications/media relations efforts to drive awareness & community engagement.
- All other duties as assigned by COO and/or VP of Membership
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- BA or BS degree or equivalent.
- 5 to 7 years of prior related work experience, preferably in sales or event fundraising in a not-for-profit setting.
- Self-starter with demonstrated skills in taking initiative, problem-solving, negotiating and driving results.
- Should be able to demonstrate successful fund raising experience including knowledge of sales best practices and current trends, and knowledge of marketing and communications.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills required ? the ability to gracefully handle rejection and bounce back assuring goals are met. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills required; ability to cold call, grow both local and corporate HQ contacts and build and nurture effective business relationships to increase Chamber visibility, brand awareness, volunteer staff and revenue.
- Detail oriented, adaptable, organized and demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
- Must be able to read, comprehend and analyze financial goals and fundraising reports and generate required reports on a timely basis.
