We are seeking Senior Software Engineers to join our Los Angeles team to help us build and deliver excellent, user-first products via rapid iterations and peer review. We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join Honey. This person will focus on building machine learning and backend applications to personalize user experiences within Honey. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll take ownership of a complete product feature area and develop an end to end solution that is deployed into our production system. You can expect to work with a cross disciplinary team including front end engineers, backend engineers, data scientists, data engineers, quality assurance and product management to enhance existing product features and build new ones. Your contribution will help enhance the experience in which our users are notified about potential savings on relevant products.

About You:

  • You write idiomatic JavaScript/Node.js; Golang, Java, Python, Scala, or Ruby is helpful.
  • You have experience designing, implementing, and maintaining extensible and scalable ETL pipelines
  • You utilize a multidisciplinary approach to providing solutions for the business, combining technical, analytical, and domain knowledge
  • You develop and take ownership of data pipelines and centralized data warehouse with trustworthy curated datasets and standardized metrics and empower data access and self-service
  • You have familiarity with data analysis & applied statistics skills such as experimental design and hypothesis testing
  • You have strong development skills, experience transforming and profiling data
  • You know how to use a framework to create robust and reliable HTTP-based APIs
  • You know about continuous integration systems like Travis, Jenkins, or CircleCI (we use Circle)
  • You have built monitoring and alerting for your production systems
  • You have a strong capability to manipulate and analyze complex, high-volume data from a variety of sources
  • You are willing and able to deploy, troubleshoot, and maintain your systems in production
  • You’ve architected with both SQL and NoSQL data stores; we use Big Table/HBase, Spark, Dataflow, Spanner, BigQuery, and Elasticsearch
  • Experience with streaming platforms (PubSub, Kafka, Kinesis) and near-real-time data pipelines
  • Comfortable building and maintaining data infrastructure in the cloud; we use Google Cloud Platform
  • You use a modern version-control system for your source code repository (Git, Mercurial, GitHub, BitBucket)

In this role, you’ll:

  • Design, build and operate Honey’s apis with a focus on performance and reliability
  • Participate in new feature development for Honey’s engineers to interact with our backend data architecture
  • Develop backend frameworks to make it easy for data scientists within honey to productionalize machine learning models
  • Evaluate storage technologies and methodologies with an eye toward scalability and performance
  • Architect, design, write, review, and test code in a collaborative environment with 2-5 other software engineers.
  • Leverage your peers as multipliers for your skills to create excellent products and services for Honey’s millions of users
  • Build GraphQL-based APIs and resolvers using JavaScript
  • Help to design, implement, and maintain data pipelines that process millions of messages per day
  • Work closely with a project manager for your mission team on product requirements and translating those requirements to technical solutions

Bonus Points for:

  • Knowledge of Deep Learning frameworks: Keras, Tensorflow, PyTorch, etc
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, CircleCI, Git, Golang, Kubernetes, Docker, Java
  • Experience with a distributed SQL platform like CockroachDB or Google Spanner
