Here are some examples: Improving the customer experience – Gyms use Occuspace to tell their customers how busy their gyms and specific spaces are (weight room vs basketball court); ski resorts use our data to report live chairlift wait times around the mountain; universities use us to help their students understand how crowded their cafeterias and libraries are Reducing energy use – Commercial office buildings use Occuspace to turn on and off climate control and lighting systems to save energy Space planning – Corporations use Occuspace to understand how their office spaces are used, and when to remodel or construct new facilities (or when not to) Retail analytics – Stores and restaurants use Occuspace to understand how long their customers are spending in line, how they are interacting with store employees, make staffing decisions, and to reduce food waste What do you do at Occuspace? I am a Technical Operations Engineer on the engineering team. I help run our platform and make sure our customers are getting the maximum value out of our product. This involves working with our customers as well as with other team members and our technology platforms. Here are some examples of what I do on any given day: We make our own hardware sensors that our customers install in their spaces. Part of my role is to ensure that our customers are able to successfully set up and activate their sensors . Our customers have a wide variety of network environments, and it takes a good knowledge of IP networking, security protocols, and the variety of situations that exist out there to help make sure our tech runs smoothly We rapidly improve our sensors and I get to learn a lot about hardware development, firmware iteration, and play a role in steering these efforts I spend a lot of time working on our advanced data and machine learning platform . Occuspace collects a lot of data and processes it in real-time, and it is a big engineering challenge to operate the data pipelines and platforms that make this possible I am directly involved with running our machine learning models on our customer data sets , and making sure our platform modules are configured properly I get to use the latest big data and machine learning technologies and tools , and work with the most modern and industry leading cloud infrastructure as well as a very experienced and senior engineering team. I am training to be a data scientist or data engineer with what Im learning every day Requirements What specific qualifications was Occuspace looking for when they found you? I got the position at Occuspace because: I am very comfortable around technology, and have a lot of experience in particular with devices and networks. I already knew about routers, DNS, DHCP, WiFi networks, and other aspects of administering an enterprise network and its attached devices. This is required experience for the job I am also comfortable with basic software skills. Being familiar with the Linux command line, knowing how to run scripts, start services on servers, and ssh around were all things that I already felt good about and is required for getting the job . It also helped that I had some Python programming experience under my belt. I use all of these skills every day I am very detail-oriented ; this job requires that I maintain a lot of discipline in what I do. I work with software and technology tools that are very sensitive to the difference in small details, and I am good at paying attention to those details I am a good communicator , both written and verbal. And I like working with people . I talk to our customers quite a bit, but also internally with all the company departments. I have to get along with everyone in order to do my job Finally, I am a problem solver . Whats great is that Occuspace is a small company and I get to have a large say in improving our product, processes and operations. Every customer situation is unique, and we learn how to improve with each installation. I am a key part of the feedback loop Benefits What is it like to work at Occuspace?
