is seeking a full-time, non-exempt Shipping Packer for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Distribution, located in San Diego, CA.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 5:00am to 1:30pm.JOB SUMMARY:The Shipping Packer is responsible for a wide variety of job responsibilities covering all facets of the distribution center to include shipping, storing, packaging, issuing functions, and processing of both non-hazardous material and hazardous material (HAZMAT) commodities.

The Shipping Packer prepares finished material/goods for shipment or storage by placing them in shipping containers based on type, size, and number of units to be packed, type of container employed, and method of shipment.

Work requires the placing of items in shipping containers and involves knowledge of stock items to verify content; selection of appropriate type and size of container; inserting enclosures in container; using appropriated packaging material to prevent breakage or damage; closing and sealing container; and applying labels and/or entering identifying data on container.

Uses WMS and other Government Data Systems resolving common error conditions, responds to computer output instructions or error conditions, follows SOPs adhering to audit readiness requirements and associated contract requirements.NOTE: This Position Description exclude packers who also make wooden boxes or crates.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Understand and meet established productivity and quality control goals associated with assigned functional area / process.Understand and use the Government provided Warehouse Management System (WMS) and other Government Data Systems to perform the requirements of the Performance Work Statement (PWS).Follow established guidelines in performing day-to-day routine tasks as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Job Breakdown sheets (JBS), Technical Manuals, and Audit Readiness standards.Understand the Acceptable Performance Levels (APL’s) associated with assigned functional work areas / process and work expeditiously to meet contractual and team goals.Adhere to Government and Company policies and procedures.Demonstrated ability to understand and execute a minimum of three (3) aspects of storage management functions as assigned:Receiving Functions: Verifying the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records.

Checking for damaged goods; insuring goods are appropriately identified for routing within the facility, preparing and keeping records of goods received.

Ensuring correct System induction utilizing WMS IAW established SOPs.

Entering and updating correct information to include Global Weight and cube for each item at time of receiving.

Warehouse (Stow and Storage): Stow receipts inappropriate storage areas and locations.

Ensure stock material is accurate and stored properly.

Ensure material is properly packed and preserved and ready for issue.

Comprehend and understand the facility storage plan as outlined by management and SOPs.

Requisition Processing: Pick and Pack Customer requisitions/orders as generated by warehouse management system.

Verifying picks and packs are accurate as compared to requisition documentation (NSN, quantity, and Condition Code).Transportation Preparation: Prepare and complete outbound process of requisitions/transshipments for transportation to include physical conformance of packaging, quantity, correct NSN, and proper staging Transportation / Shipping work areas.

Ordering and filling SEAVANSAdditional responsibilities include but not limited to completing bills of lading, customs forms, manifests and all other required shipping forms and paperwork, in accordance with the Defense Transportation Regulations (DTR).Generate (PPP) work order, execute packaging and labeling requirements to specifications and record all work performed IAW DLA SOPs and DLA process manuals.Ability to use MHE and other types of equipment as required to move and stage materiel.Responsive communication to the Compliance Team (Inventory, Customer Service, and Quality Control) regarding any system discrepancies that cannot be resolved.Ability to use e-mail to receive and disseminate workload tasks and information.Ability to communicate in a professional manner with co-workers, site management and CGA regarding operations and policies at the Distribution Center.Maintain a safe and secure work environment.Make local deliveries as required to meet operational needs.

Perform other duties as assigned in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, Storage Plan and workload requirements.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School Diploma (or equivalent).

CONTROLLED PROGRAMS:Controlled Programs apply to work areas / work processes that require a Secret / Classified / Elevated Clearance level in order to execute assigned tasks (processes consistent with above mentioned duties and responsibilities).

An employee selected as a viable and qualified candidate to work within the local Controlled Programs must be able to obtain the appropriate Security Clearance access and comply with associated contract requirements.HAZARDOUS MATERIAL (HAZMAT:HAZMAT programs apply to work areas / work process that require Federal / State regulatory certifications in order to execute assigned tasks (processes consistent with above mentioned duties and responsibilities).

An employee selected as a viable and qualified candidate to work within the local HAZMAT programs must be able to obtain / pass specific certifications courses (example AMMO 62, etc.) and comply with associated contract requirements.SUMMARY OF JOB REQUIREMENTS:Must be U.S.

CitizenPossess a valid Driver’s License.Fluent in speaking, reading and writing the English language.Military or DLA Distribution experience a plus.Previous experience in warehouse / distribution environment a plus.Ability to operate Material Handling Equipment (Forklifts and other).Ability to operate power tools and other industrial equipment.Ability to successfully completion of WMS training, OSHA compliance, DLA SOP training and various company training requirements.

MISCELLANEOUS / OTHER:Ability to stand, squat, and have full range of motion, wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as needed for job duties, lift at least 40 pounds, operate a forklift in accordance with a training certification program, and see, hear and respond to dangerous situations.This job description is meant to be a guide.
