Our client is looking for a Senior Aerospace Soft Goods Engineer.

The Senior Aerospace Soft Goods Engineer will collaborate with a 5-member team, responsible for finding unique solutions to support advancements in unmanned vehicles.

The Senior Aerospace Soft Goods Engineer will help manage efforts involving recovery systems and space inflatables.

Leading design efforts and supporting current and development of new manufacturing processes.

They will utilize their technical background and experience to work with customers to help establish appropriate requirements and then manage the design, production and testing of the specified recovery systems or space inflatable.

The Senior Aerospace Soft Goods Engineer will evaluate and establish better and more efficient ways to manufacture our client’s products, supporting continuous improvement of product quality and reduction in manufacturing costs.

They must be familiar with the wide variety of high-performance textiles, laminates and coatings used in the aerospace industry, have experience with soft goods design, manufacturing equipment, processes, and testing methods.

This work is hands-on, interacting and collaborating with customers as well as Engineering and Production team personnel.

Essential Responsibilities of Senior Aerospace Soft Goods Engineer
– for UAS and High-Altitude Balloon Operations Apply knowledge of mechanical and materials engineering and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex soft goods (textile) structural systems and parts Assist customers in developing appropriate requirements and applicable standards Design and support fabrication of soft goods for space and high-altitude applications Present manufacturing process and equipment design improvement ideas, and collaborate with management, engineering, and production resources to implement Hold internal design reviews as well as lead customer design reviews Document the efforts with drawings and 3D models, review presentations, work instructions, work orders, test plans, and report preparation Ensure solutions achieve required quality levels, reliability, and consistency Use computer software to create/modify layouts, drawings, and designs supporting manufacturing operations Interface effectively with vendors to get quotes and develop purchase orders as required Incorporate engineering specifications into design, process, or manufacturing techniques Support R&D for new manufacturing technology efforts Note: Position requires 10-20% travel Requirements and Competencies Bachelor of Science in industrial, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related field 4-6 years of professional Soft Goods engineering experience preferably working with recovery systems and/or space inflatables Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including assembly and test Strong leadership skills Knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma concepts Effective communication skills, both written and verbal (reports, procedures, proposals, etc.,) Knowledge of Materials Engineering, with experience in polymers and high-performance textile materials Experience with best-in-class manufacturing techniques Knowledge of design of inflatable systems, components, and materials Ability to interpret schematics and assembly drawings Proficiency using SolidWorks or other commercial 3D Design Software Ability to work with power and hand tools safely and effectively Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and web enabled applications.

Highly efficient in recording and modifying macros in Excel.
