Senior HR Business Partner

The USC Viterbi School of Engineering seeks a well-rounded, agile Senior Human Resources Business Partner to join its team.

The Sr.

HR Business Partner will support all Human Resource functions at the Viterbi School, delivering excellence in HR services to 350 full time faculty (tenure, research and teaching), 350 full time staff, 60 postdoctoral scholars, and more than 2000 Student Workers across eight academic departments, several academic programs and various administrative units.

Working in close partnership with School leadership and USC’s Central HR division, the Sr.

HR Business Partner will support overall policy development, implementation, and enforcement to reinforce institutional compliance efforts and sustain a culture of accountability.

The specific accountabilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Performance Management.

Resolves performance management issues independently or in coordination with the HR Director.

Manages disciplinary actions and terminations, as needed.

Manages annual performance evaluation cycle in Workday.

Employee Relations.

Resolves employee concerns and employee relations issues independently or in coordination with the HR Director.

Monitors employee engagement and develops targeted strategies to bolster engagement.

Data and Analytics.

Supports all HRIS functions and processing in Workday.

Manages and analyzes HR data and maintains key HR data sets.

Measures, monitors, and analyzes workforce analytics.

Organizational Development/Workforce Planning.

Supports HR Director in organizational development and workforce planning efforts.

Supports long-term remote work operations.

Training and Professional Development: Supports HR Director in delivering targeted training and professional development opportunities.

Coaches managers, as well as high and low performing staff.

Helps develop career pathing and succession plans.

Culture and Values.

Reinforces and models USC and Viterbi culture and values in all areas of work.

Supports USC and School-wide diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts.

Supports Employee Resource Groups.

Continuous Improvement.

Improves current and develops new practices to deliver excellence and increased efficiency across HR services.

Develops new HR workflows to deliver consistent services to all constituents.

Develops and manages Viterbi HR website.

Issue Spotting and Risk Mitigation.

Monitors and reports on any issues that may cause risk.

Mitigates risk through process improvement and targeted intervention.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Master’s degree desirable.

Seven years of directly relevant experience in human resources and employee training & development.

Experience, preferably in higher education and in large, complex operations.

Experience in a dynamic, fast paced organization.

Strong project and time management skills.

Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work respectfully and persuasively in a diverse community with those who may have differing opinions and experiences.

Excellent Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, Word, and Power Point.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum educationMinimum Experience: 5 yearsMinimum Field of Expertise: Directly related human resources generalist experience.

Strong knowledge of principles and practices of human resources administration.

Knowledge of human resources organizational development/workforce planning, recruitment, hiring, performance management, compensation administration, benefits, training and development, disciplinary actions, employee relations, affirmative action, disability, workers compensation, and information systems.

Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Demonstrated effective oral and written communications and excellent interpersonal skills.
