Residential Counselor

Summary: Supervision, protection and care of children individually and in groups at all times.

Assist each child in working with a group and in handling individual problems.

Administration of behavior support and intervention and setting of limits per Penny Lane policy and procedure.

Notation of the child’s progress; identification of the possible need for professional services; and communication of such findings to professional staff.

Knowledge of agency policy procedure and treatment program and the implementation of such programs.

Maintain staff to client ratio at all times, and other job duties as assigned by Program Director/Executive Director.

Transporting of clients to and from school as well as other destinations as required.

Position Location: North Hills, CA Salary Range: $16.10 up to $19.95 per hour Additional 10% overnight shift differential Shift: Overnight Sunday-Wednesday Bachelor’ Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university;Or four years related paid experience and/or training with supervising and working with children in a group setting such as a classroom, juvenile hall, residential care setting or coaching.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.

Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Knowledge and understanding of the needs of youth served in a residential setting.Skills and ability to engage and develop rapport with the youth who have various backgrounds.Skills and ability to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions.Skills to communicate effectively with the ability to solve problems in a collaborative manner.Passes the Residential Medication Management test with a minimum of 80%.

Attends the residential medication management training every 6 months.

Avoid medications errors by following the 5 “rights” and being aware of high alert medications.Passes the Emergency Intervention Plan test with a minimum of 80%.

Attend Emergency Intervention Plan training every 6 months.Must maintain Pro-Act and CPR/First Aid Certification.Must have a current valid California driver’s license and current automobile insurance.

Must have and maintain a clean driving record acceptable to the organization’s insurance company.
