Quality Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for managing and coordinating quality related activities through the support staff and to ensure these activities are completed using defined procedures. Must have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment with program management, quality, purchasing, finance, and engineering team members.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities for all programs in alignment with quality engineering processes and with our customer’s supplier quality procedures. APQP requirements will include at a minimum: FMEA’s Control Plans, QFD’s, AQPS’s, reliability analysis, PPAP preparation, and DVP&R approval.
  • Process capability studies, and calibration systems implementation and maintenance
  • Provide customer contact supporting all Quality related functions including the Customer APQP Process, pilot and production corrective actions, process approvals, pilot builds, launch/SOP, quality process improvements, quality standards, warranty analysis, etc. This will include the organization of product sorts at the customer, if necessary.
  • Perform audits on potential/current Manufacturing Providers for compliance to known and automotive accepted Quality Management System, Manufacturing Practices, Value/Non-Value added activities, scrap/waste management and safety systems.
  • Perform audits on manufacturing providers with main emphasis on Manufacturing Providers
  • Coordinate/Facilitate as necessary the operating philosophy through the Manufacturing Provider specific RASIC.
  • Participate in design reviews with a focus on critical characteristic identification and lead APQP program reviews on all programs from concept to manufacture. Review all lessons learned from previous programs to ensure that all knowledge gained will be implemented in all new programs.
  • Participate in the areas of designing for manufacturability/design for assembly for the team. Support all product design and development with a thorough assessment of the design. Participate in design changes to improve manufacturability, assembly, durability, reliability, and assure specifications/quality requirements are met.
  • Assist in the development of a warranty tracking and reporting system to meet corporate KPI’s.
  • Assist supplier development activities on all programs as related to supplier APQP and first-time PPAP approval. This will include assisting the manufacturing providers in solving supplier related manufacturing problems.
  • Assist in the review and approve IMDS Submissions from our supply and to our customer.
  • Responsible to keep up to date with all Quality Management System(s) changes within the organization.

Experience, Skills & Education:

  • Minimum 3 years automotive background with Plastics, electro-mechanical product knowledge. Must be a self starter.
  • Must understand AIAG PPAP Processes. Manufacturing environment and quality systems experience. HVAC or PTC systems is a major plus.
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
