Psychiatrist

Psychiatrist Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services, the Psychiatrist:

  • Evaluates patients through conversations, interviews, and observations
  • Requests testing/lab work; analyzes patient data and results
  • Diagnoses patients using the DSM-5 and participates in consultations with Therapists about patients diagnoses
  • Develops and implements appropriate treatment plan goals with patients
  • Analyzes the best medications or therapy to help patients reach goals
  • Prescribes medications and monitors patients medication compliance
  • Maintains appropriate patient records by entering progress, symptoms, medications, and treatments into the electronic health record (EXYM)
  • Counsels patients and listens to their reactions to treatment
  • Educates patients and relevant parties of patients progress, treatment, and future goals
  • Works in collaboration with Therapists and Case Managers to determine the best course of treatment for patients
  • Provides crisis intervention, as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Psychiatrist Requirements and Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Successful completion of U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX-USA)
  • Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; local state regulations and certifications, Continuing Medical Education (CME), and Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requirements must be met
  • Medical malpractice insurance required
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Knowledge of DMH billing guidelines and documentation
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently as demonstrated by 24-hour turnaround time for submission of clinical documentation
  • Knowledge of mandated reporting guidelines and HIPAA
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Great interpersonal relations, communications, and demeanor
  • Experience using EXYM
