Production Planner/Buyer

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for: Carrying out planning, scheduling, and ordering for assigned product lines.

Work involves coordination and liaison with various manufacturing and related functions and outside vendors.

Prepares schedules for products, parts and components and performs related functions.

Sources suppliers for new product as well as establishing new supplies for existing products.

Position Duties

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
Prepare production plans and schedule parts and units to meet an established delivery dates utilizing manufacturing information systems.

Schedule parts or components for production for assigned product lines or designated orders.

Update schedules periodically and reschedule where necessary.

Keep current on manufacturing cycles and anticipated customer requirements, recommend combining jobs and increasing quantities where indicated to affect economics.

Act to ensure item availability, work with Production Control to drive requirements for purchased parts and the release purchase orders per MRP system.

Check for sources, prices, or negotiate for prices and sources when necessary.

Monitors and manages supplier performance, ensuring that company goals pertaining to quality, delivery and costs are met.

Develops and presents price/cost analysis and communicates benefits.

Integrates suppliers with our technical teams when needed for product lines.

Prepare requests for quotation; negotiate with suppliers; select the appropriate supplier and commit purchase-requisitioned requirements.

Prepare purchase order and amendments, including all technical and commercial requirements; follow-up and ensure requirements are met.

Review and recommend disposition of all invoice discrepancies; work with suppliers for proper disposition of rejected, cancelled, and surplus materials.

Develop and evaluate and utilize the capabilities of new sources of supply.

Initiate requests for cycle counts and inventory adjustments where required.

Carry out special projects related to production control as assigned.

Must have good oral, written communications and have a high level of moral and ethical codes.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and three or more years production planning experience, or the equivalent.

APICS certification, MRP, AS400, and/or MAPICS experience a plus.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls.

The employee frequently is required to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch and reach with hands and arms, climb or balance.

Must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
